Cool…Thanks for the tips. Headed there in a few weeks. I’ll be sure to post an update on the ride.

20 miles one way on a snowmobile trail doesn’t sound that exciting…From what I’ve been reading BearBrook has PLENTY to keep me busy for 3 days of riding. Does anyone that has ridden @ BB recently have any trail suggestions? Must hit trails? Trails to Avoid? Curious to hear about the Mtn climbs & whether there are "better" routes of travel up/down the various mountains (Catamount, Hall, Bear).

I’ve ridden portions of the Maine section of the trail and contrary to previous post…It is not all road riding. The southern portion of the trail from ME border into Portland is known as the EasternTrail [url:39646q28]http://www.easterntrail.org/[/url:39646q28]. A little less than 50% of the trail is "off road", and more importantly they have plans to convert many more sections of the trail to "off road". The trail is well marked throughout the road sections making navigating fairly simple. For this type of riding, the ME section of trail from Kennebunk into Portland (~30 miles) is nice and mostly off road.

Good idea !!! I now have a "routine" where I will put my garage door opener in my glove box whenever I go for a ride, so that I can’t just push the door opener and drive into the garage.

My best crash requires a prelude of another crash (dubbed my most "damaging crash") to set the tone….Prelude: In my rookie days(when we used to think it was fun to ride on each other’s tail & try to pass each other), I was riding close behind a buddy on an unfamiliar trail that "seemed" to be fast/flowy with no obstacles. We had just crested a hill at speed when all of a sudden a 2-3 foot ditch appears across the trail. With really no time to stop or avoid it, my buddy went down hard & I had to avoid him & try to clear the ditch all in about a split second. Well I failed at both…I did not clear the ditch & I "kind of" ran him over. He ended up severely spraining his ankle not being able to walk for about a week & I snapped my frame.

Without a bike due to the snapped frame, I borrowed my brother in laws MTB for a ride along a single track trail along the edge of a riverbank. A little unfamiliar with his bike & how it handled, my front tire slipped & I did an endo over the bars into the river bike and all…My biggest fear was losing his bike & now having to replace his bike in addition to mine….somehow I managed to grab the bike, tread water & get the bike out safely.
