Always exciting to build a new ride from ground up. The wait can sometimes be hard, specially when you are down to the last few detail pieces.
You could post in the MTB Repair & Maintenance section if you run into any issues with the build-up.
I look forward to seeing some pics as it all comes together.

I’m upgrading to something better next summer either way. I was just wondering if it was worth it to move up to the Guardian for the fall and spring.

IMO not worth it. I would ride the Talon until you up grade next summer. In the end the specs on both bikes are very similar, don’t think you would be gaining much if anything from upgrading/changing bikes.

I just did a 19.48KM trail ride with my 12 year old son last night. Longest we had done together up to this ride was 13km so before lasts nights ride my son said, lets go for 15 tonight dad! Was he super surprised when we got back to the car and checked and we had done 19.5KM. He says to me, "dad why didn’t we do .05KM more to make it to 20!".
I heard him say to my wife just before bed last night, I love going for rides with dad, but does my butt ever hurt!

    Proud dad!

Shameless Bump. I like how strava is connected and syncs rides. Can this be done with MapMyRide or do I have to start using strava again?

Found this on YouTube. The first question popped out my mind is how dumb (or high) those idiots must be to not realize they’ve been captured on video?

I just went Tubeless with schwalbe tires and my dtswiss rims…so far so good. Anyone know of better valve stems to buy? I did have a hard time getting the tire to inflate and could hear a lot of air by the valve stem.

What did you use as a rim strip? I’ve had great success with Gorilla tape and WTB valve stems and they come in pretty colors, black, red and blue.

I know there is gonna be alot of people disagreeing with me but Where I Ride we have alot of thorn trees I was getting Flats everytime I went for a ride so I started to run extra thick tubes with slime in them been running them for years with no Flats. Yes people are gonna argue they are heavy but this is what has worked for me with less mess

Have you tried tubeless? If your wheels are able to set up tubeless, give it a go you will not be disappointed!

Does anyone have any experience using recreational oxygen to assist acclimatization? I am driving from 300 ft above sea level to 8000ft. I have no difficulty hiking or biking(level) but biking up is killer.

You’ll be fine! I need oxygen going up hills at sea level!

I know this is almost a month late, but I rode it May 10th weekend and it was in great condition.. Trail was completely clear and dry. I loved that trail and can’t wait to ride it again.

Soooooooo, I have the Shimano M530 Mountain clip pedal and the M087 shoe, which is a great setup and all that. BUT, naaaahhh… I’m just not with the whole clip thing (maybe I didn’t give it enough time). I certainly don’t think it makes me a better rider. The only thing I see/felt was that I can jerk the bike nearly close to 3 feet in the air, all i know is I’ve cleared ridiculous trees. Aside from that, I don’t see how it’s better. Plus I like being evasive when things go down, fast. Not one with my bike.

I went back to my flats and love it! Can’t quite get that high yet, but… anyway. I’m looking for opinions, (which people like to give 😃 ) on which flats that you would recommend. I’m a size 12 wide type foot, so please… a platform, almost a stage… but not ridiculous, someone out there has to have the right pedal. I ride pretty much everything, so I want something solid with BITE! WIsh I could go somewhere are demo pedals, but not happening, so please help. Thanks for all your input!

    Respectfully,

How much $ you looking to spend??

I just picked up a set of Twenty6 predator’s with Ti axle which you don’t really need unless you’re a weight weenie. First impressions, nice big platform and pins from hell, it is recommended to file the tips of the pins down a bit.

I personally have not used them but for a cheaper option Spike Spank pedals have a big platform and excellent grip.

You can also have a look Straitline products there Amp pedals look similar to Spanks.

Raceface are about to release a platform pedal that is to have a large platform and will be reasonably priced. Can be seen here

in reply to: grinding noise from disc brakes #121533
    "John Gowland" wrote

Hi, I’ve recently bought a rockhopper 29er & after about 50 miles both the front & rear disc brakes started making grinding noises under heavy breaking. I took the bike back to the shop & told them what was happening & they said that they had re-allinged the pads but after about 2-3 miles they were just the same.
I can’t see anything loose & it all seems to be lined up correctly. any help very much appreciated.

    John

Did you purchase the bike brand new? What make of brakes are on the bike?

First off, if you purchased the bike new, new brakes need to be bedded in. Here is an article on how to bed brakes in.

Secondly, some brakes (Avid) are notorious for making noises during braking. I wouldn’t call it a grinding noise but more of a squealing noise.

Couple other reason that brakes would make noises, they have gotten contaminated some how and would need to be cleaned, or as you LBS suggested they are not aligned right and need to be realigned again.

Lastly if you purchased the bike from your LBS continue to take it back to them until they sort out the issue. This is why I truly believe it is more important to purchase a bike from a shop with a reputation for excellent customer over cheapest prices. just my 2 cents.

    Hope you get this sorted

Not too good looking, but I like the price

That copenhagenroad rack is ridiculously priced for what it is.

When you buy a $8-$12,000 bike made in Taiwan, what are you paying for? Are you paying for the elite materials?

The profit margin on a $8-$12,000 bike is big, no # because I don’t wait the "man" to hunt me down. Lets put it this way your LBS could survive very very nicely off selling just one of these bikes a week, OH and servicing crappy Walmart bikes! In reality most Mom and Pop shops are lucky to sell a couple of these bikes a year.

ARE YOU GETTING YOUR MONEY’S WORTH WHEN YOU PAY THAT MUCH FOR A NON-CUSTOM, NON-RACING OFF-THE-SHELF BICYCLE OR ARE YOU SIMPLY PAYING A STUPID TAX?

If you are paying that kind of money for a so called off the shelf bike, it may not be custom but it is sure as hell race worthy. Most companies high priced bikes are not far off what the pro’s would be riding. Of course they use the pro’s to test the latest and the greatest (Sram’s blackbox technology) which is not available to Joe public, but you are basically getting your hands on the closes thing to a pro’s bike.

So in the end, you are paying for the name, R&D, of course the name again, a bunch of mark-up, the opportunity to ride what the best in the world ride and last but not least a huge chunk on advertising.

Moneys worth? Not a chance!! But as other have already said, "if you can afford it, why not!"

Oh ya and that stupid tax, we really need to keep a lid on that. Once the masses find out about it, the end of the world will soon follow!
