I recently purchased a 400 HT from BD.  I am pleased with it so far . I believe it is worth more than what i spent on it. But there is ALOT to be said for dealing with your LBS, sometimes the trade off isn’t worth it.

LOL I tried to post them here but I can’t figure out how to! I did post them on the singletracks FB page its the Black/Blue Norco 29er. I love my new new ride! Educate me on how to get a pic up here and I will post one.

Thank-you all for your great input! I am becoming more and more confident that I have made the right choice, even though the bike hasn’t got to the shop yet. I have done more research and the Norco sounds like a very solid bike. The Airborne seems good as well, and I am very mechanically inclined, so I am figuring that I probably could have got the bike up and running. The one thing that buying this Norco has done for me its given me a solid friendship with a LBS that I will need now and for as long as I can ride. I might have gotten that with a "online" bike but I might have not. Max ( LBS owner) is a very stand up guy and is making sure this is a solid investment. Beings that this is a small town he needs customers to be happy because word of mouth makes and breaks business owners here. He is going the extra mile for me, not to mention bringing me into contact with other MTB’ers, that way I have friends to ride with! Again, thank -you all, there has been very good info, had I not purchased before I had this info I could have very easily went with the Airborne but I am happy with how it all worked out! 😃

    Hi!
I am new here as well, and would like to say welcome! Your doing it right man, if your main goal is to get out and ride! Don’t worry about whats underneath you for now, just pedal! Finding this sport has been a blessing for me, all the stress and worries fade away out there, I hope it does the same for you! Happy trails!

If you can, since you haven’t taken delivery of the bike yet, you might want to consider a couple options.

This Airbourne is a big step up on the bike you bought, and only costs $599. This bike gives you hydraulic disk brakes, better fork, better shifting, and is a solid bike. I know a couple guys on here are riding them.

You could even look at something like the Specialized Hardrock Disk 29, which is comparable to the bike you are buying, and costs $580.

For a comparable price, the Specialized Hardrock Sport Disk 29 for $700 and gives you hydraulic disk brakes and a more adjustable fork.

Wow I just looked at that Airborne bike and it is beautiful! I am second guessing myself now! LOL! Lower price too! I should have gotten input BEFORE I bought! Thanks again for the info.

Thank you for the great input! I am still trying to wrap my head around all the parts and components that goes into these modern marvels! I think I will be happy with Norco, Max the owner of the LBS says he will stand behind them 100% and anything I need he will accommodate. He is even going to give me a price break on a new hydration pack! 😃 Now… I need to learn proper maintenance, and get some local mtb friends so I don’t have to ride alone! 😕

    Hi Everyone!
Beings I am pretty new to the scene, I just wanted to get some input that I probably should have got before I actually made the purchase! Here’s the story; I have been tooling around local hills on a older Trek 4100 alpha for about two summers now and I have loved every minute of it. Well I just came into a little bit a cash and wanted to treat myself to a new steed since I know without a doubt I’m going to stay involved with this sport. So, I done a little research not much, and decided to go with a hard tail because of my weight and my budget.
I wanted to keep it to under a grand for my first real purchase from LBS. My LBS is a Norco dealership and I had test rode a couple of them previously and I liked them. So, I purchased the Norco Challenger 9.3 29er. I am currently waiting for my color to be shipped to the bike shop. So, heres my question what is the general consensus on Norco bikes? Do you think I made a good purchase or should I have went with other bikes in that price range? ($800.00-$1,000) Thanks in advance for your great input! i tried to paste a specs list here but can’t seem to get it to work! LOL!
