I agree with @iliketexmex – GoPro batteries tend to last around 45 minutes or so of actual recording, so if  you’re going for a long ride where you want to document your ride for the sake of safety, then Cycliq cameras are a great choice.

Chest mount on a GoPro Hero 7 or newer, or a GoPro Max.  I’ve tested on a 5, 7, and a Max.  The video directly off of the 7 and Max are stable enough to used directly off of the camera.  I currently use a Max, and use it either in “Hero Mode” (using only one of the cameras) on my chest, or in 360 mode on a selfie stick, stuck into my camelbak, with the camera positioned just above my head.  Both options work great, but they have a very different feel to them.

My last sync was in May, and im pretty sure I’ve disconnected and reconnected at least once, but I just reconnected it again now, I’ll check to see if it syncs.

Yes!  We’re definitely excited about the new trails they’re working on.  They got a state grant to fund most of the construction, and the local city (Smryna) has kicked in some funds as well.

Jeff – thanks for the info, I just submitted an addition to the overall trail description.  I did already add a review mentioning that the trail was closed.

The Rylo uses its own software app, available on iphone/android or Mac. It seems to generate some pretty impressive results from what I’ve seen from their sample videos (https://www.instagram.com/p/Bm-xmM8hGy7/?igshid=1x2mo1a61e3pk).

As far as stabilizing my current gopro video, I use some free software to run an analysis and then a stabilization pass on the video. It’s a little clunky, but not bad to operate when you get used to it, and the results are pretty good – and, of course, it’s free. I can provide more info if you’re interested.

Jeff, thanks for the update! I installed the latest app update while I was on the way for a ride at Allatoona Creek this morning, and everything worked perfectly when I got there. Much appreciated for the quick response!

    Jeff, thanks for checking in.

I’m using Android, free app.  When I tried to check in at a trail, it hangs up on the Check-In page.  So I tried going to the Nearby Trails page, and it also shows nothing.  I force-closed app from the Android app settings screen.  Same results.  Cleared app cache, same result.  Clear data, logged back in successfully (which didn’t work the previous time I was having issues with the app), but then found all the same results.  I haven’t tried a full uninstall/reinstall of the app yet, but I certainly can.  Screenshots attached.  I also tested on a spare iPhone that I had handy, it seems to work correctly.

I’ve heard the same thing, that every newer generation of gopro has better stabilization (which isn’t surprising).  I had a Hero 3, and moved up to a Hero 5 when I saw how much improvement there was over a gen 4.  But they claim the 7 is another real leap forward.

I use a chest mount with my GoPro Hero 5, it seems to give me the best stabilization, and you can always run a stabilization software pass afterward, but that tends to cut into your quality a little bit.

I started having problems with the app again yesterday, and I’ve done all the same troubleshooting that I did previously.  It worked on Saturday, and not on Monday.  I’ll keep watching for an app update.

Have you considered the Rylo?  It’s a 360-degree camera, recording everything all the time.  Then, you do the stabilization in the editing process (since you have ALL the footage, it’s able to keep anything you want stable, simply by shifting the field of view around).  I’ve been considering them for a while now, and I think I’m going to pick one up at some point.  They’re actually on sale for July 4, if you’re interested.  (No, I don’t work for them, I’ve just been drooling about them for a while).

There are other options that are similar, like the Insta360 ONE X and the GoPro Fusion, but from what I’ve been able to tell, Rylo’s software has yet to be beaten.

Just to confirm that this is fixed – the app update from a few days ago did get everything working for me again.

Yep, me too.  Had trouble checking in, so force-closed app.  Didn’t work.  Cleared cache, didn’t work.  Clear data, didn’t work – couldn’t log in.  Uninstall & reinstall app, didn’t work – still can’t log in. Definitely my go-to MTB app, so I’m hoping it gets fixed soon.
