I did buy the bike new. I’ve owned it for two seasons and have about 1,100 miles on it, but have never bent the wheel.
+1 on that, I’m also looking for one… Glad to pay all transfer fees.
Cobweb Duty: The first rider on any given trail in the morning ends up with a face full of cobwebs.
Wanted to sing up, but I have other obligatons. Looks like fun… good luck!
I don’t think the question was "what can i buy to make me a better rider". It’s not a sin to upgrade your bike. Will it make you a better rider? … no, but if it makes your time on you bike more ejoyable then go for it. If you can afford it, what’s the problem… disc brakes made a huge difference to me… and I don’t mean that I think it made me a better rider.
When I first got my shoes I had foot pain and numbness. I read an article about using arch supporting insoles. The pain in my feet quit once my shoes broke in a little and I never tried it. It might be worth a try though.
Where do your feet hurt? Just when you are riding or long after you stop? Numbness?
Trail Gnome: What we blame for crashes that just have no other explanation.
My wife and son like to sleep in on weekends, so I end up getting out on the trail first thing in the morning. It often makes for sorter rides than I would like but I try to get miles in when I can and daydream about riding when I can’t.
[/quote:l9c5h6a3]I haven’t had much luck finding local clubs in my area, has anyone out there ever started a club or been involved with one as it tried to grow its membership?
Where do you live?
Just north of Grand Rapids, MI (Greenville). We have two nice trails and I also ride in Grand Rapids.
"Martino0626" wroteI have three guys I ride with exclusively and then on weekends with usually end up with a large group ranging from 6 to 20 riders. I started out lone wolf style but I found that riding in groups are fun and safer. I recommend connecting with club or MTB group of some kind and the groups website will usually have forums with members asking if anyone wants to ride or join a group ride. You will become a better rider that way to… because the groups with better riders will push your limitations

"bpmcginty74" wroteMost of the time I run solo. But i have found a lot of people at work are interested in mountain biking but don’t have the funds. So I usually offer my "loaner" old Trek to them and away we go. On Friday’s I just put the two bikes in the back of my truck and after work I usually find someone to hit the trails with.
That’s a great idea, I wish I had another bike. Ooo… you may have given me a justifiable reason to buy another bike.
"tarvisg" wroteI just put a set of Easton Havens on my Specialized Enduro. They look awesome !
Also picked up a Roadie, Specialized Roubaix.
What have you upgraded lately?
Wow … The bike looks great!!!
"kvnrbrts" wroteI was just sitting at work for the second weekend in a row and loooking over pictures of awesome trails all around the country as well as looking at some trail shots from some members, Goo has some cool trail shots from Georgia, but I found myself imagining I was ripping down some sweet singletrack on my Titus having a blast…anyone else have that happen? Happens to me all the time. 😀
For weeks now, waiting for the Michigan snow to melt. Heading south in five or six weeks …. Don’t know how I’m going to make it that long, the spin bike is getting old.

I just had this issue on my hardtail and a new stem fixed it.[/quote:32gwvp8v]
Mine made that sound when the headset loosened up.
"badbandit12" wroteI perfer to ride with riders that are better than me helps me push my self more than being alone. even though if everyone is busy then i will head out by my self. But we have a group of about 6 or 7 that ride every weekend together and a couple of nights a week.
How did you hook up with these 6 or 7 guys? Local club or just friends with the same interest?
"GoldenGoose" wroteSuggestions for good topics:
What type of bike does Chuck Norris ride?
Do bike ninjas exist and how are we all still alive if so?
If Jesus hadn’t ridden his bike in two weeks and it just rained on the trails but he was really jonesing, WWJD?Clearly Chuck Norris rides a custome bike that’s frame is made from the strongest fibers know to man… hair from his own mustache. The tires are filled with the fear from his enemies. I’ve heard he runs platform pedals as he rides barefoot and his saddle is is covered by sandpaper not leather.
If you are someone who mostly rides alone (by choice or otherwise), how far would you drive to explore a new trail and would you travel further with a friend or a group?
"maddslacker" wroteI hooked up with two local clubs, well, local chapters of national clubs. Riding with the same group week in and week out is a lot more fun than going solo.
Do you ride the same trails with the same group each week? Do you all stick together or do some get dropped?
"trek7k" wroteMountain bikers never ride alone – unless you’re the only one on the trail. We’re all brothers and sisters. 😀
Cheesy sentiments aside, I really prefer to ride with others – those rides seem to be the most fun. On average I’d say I ride with 3-4 guys but during my 29 day challenge I ended up riding alone a good bit just because I had to ride at odd times of the day/week.
Ya… Cheesy, but I’m with you. So far the people I’ve met all seem to share some unspoken connection or at least respect.
