The bike shop I belong to is:

    http://www.torontocyclist.com/bbc/7menu.html

If ever someone is in the area it is a great place to stop.

As everyone has already said… welcome. I am new to this site and the most obvious thing is there are many people who either have been riding for a long time to share wisdom as well as a good amount of people who used to ride and are now getting back into it. I am in the second group myself.

I am riding a late 98 KHS Comp hard tail with front suspension and although it is old it is working great. Best thing I could have done is purchased a mechanic’s stand and how too book so I can do most of my own wrenching. This website also helps if you run into a situation where you don’t quite know how to fix it, there are lots of people who do and will help you out as long as you ask the questions.

Welcome again to the site. If your anything like me this site keeps me motivated to get out and ride.

When I wasn’t married with responsibilities then I was able to go every day and just schedule my rides around my work. Now that I am married and have a house and therefore the Honey Doo list that is associated with being married I like to get out 2-3 times per week.

If I can do more then great. My wife just recently started coming with me to hit the trails as well which has been fun. Still need a solo ride once a week to push yourself and de-stress from the weeks work if needed.

Now those are a set of headlights. Nice job!

in reply to: Biking with a wedding ring #69945

I keep the ring on and thankfully have not experienced any issues with it while I ride.

Great ring that fits perfect shouldn’t cause any issues I wouldn’t think.

Just tell your boss you were in contact with someone that has H1N1 and now you need to be as far away from everyone just in case you have the flu. Part of being far away involves getting there which MTB is the perfect solution.

This way you might be able to get a couple days off work which is even better.

If the boss asks for a doctor’s note, just start sneezing and coughing.

45 and still going strong. Bravo!

I am 31 and starting to get very concerned about my health. I am a good 25lbs overweight and have spent too much of the past 5 years on my butt watching TV. So I say "inspirational" regarding your age and the fact that you bike as well as other outdoor activities. Anyone that thinks otherwise is jealous.

I am just glad I found the love for MTB again. I should be dropping that 25lbs quickly and now that I have introduced the sport to my wife she is quickly catching the bug as well. Win win.

All the best with your back. Keep your family at Singletracks updated.

Way to go NismoFreak69! That is amazing. Keep it up.

in reply to: Helmet, full-face or traditional? #78473

Even though I do not have a nice full suspension bike or serious DH runs to fly down, I think now that I have read all the comments about FF vrs XC helmets I think I might want a FF helmet.

The safety standards is a big thing and great information given.

in reply to: Cross Training? #78358

Cross Training for me would require actual training in the first place. Since I don’t plan on racing I just try to get outside and enjoy life whenever possible. MTB is my drug of choice but camping and taking my chocolate lab outside for a hike always puts a smile on my face.

If I were serious into training (and boy do I respect anyone that does) I think spinning class or yoga as suggested by others would be a great place to start.

in reply to: What have YOU been working on when riding? #78601

I am just working on having fun and getting out on the trails when ever I can. Everything else will catch up. Endurance is a huge thing that is getting better and better. Hill climbing is another item on the list that gets better but something I am working on because after all… what goes up must come down and we all love that part.

After 8+ years of not riding that much this season has started out to be a re-birth of sorts. Everything needs a bit of work and I am ok with that.

I just got my wife out on the trails for the first time as well. Bought her a good intro hardtail bike and she did awsome on her first ride. She powered up some hills that surprised me. I was so excited to share this part of my life with her I fell twice because I was a over stimulated goof trying to show off. She didn’t fall so now she thing she is better than me…. as long as it makes her want to ride again… she can think what she wants.

in reply to: Most annoying thing on the trails? #78549

The only thing I can think of that has not been said which I just experienced 2 days ago is animal crap. People that take their dogs on the trails are great (I do myself) but if they crap on the trail… pick it up. Nothing worse than riding over a soft, warm pile of crap.

Thankfully I saw the mound and didn’t ride over it. Especially thankfull because it wasn’t from a dog…. someone brought a horse through the trails… now that would have been messy.

in reply to: website q? #78794

Thanks Mongoose! I must admit I have seen through reading the various posts that this website is everything you say and more.

I personally like the diversity of experience on this site. Although I have been technically a MTB rider for over 10 years a better part of that my bike has been collecting dust. There was a time I lived to ride but that faded away. Now at 31 years old I am finding that passion again and I am loving it.

This website helps motivate me to get out and ride whenever I can. Who could ask for more.

Now I just need to get some pics of the trails I ride so I can share with the group.

    Perfect question!!!!!

I am new to singletracks as well and was wondering what the titles were all about.

Great website and support from the various members.

in reply to: Another great site for wasting time at work!! #78785

The website suggested looks like a good one. Great way to seduce the k9 while at work. I did notice one of the poll questions on this website actually gives a list of a bunch of other MTB websites which are all good but not quite as good as this one.

I would include the list of websites but I am at home and the list is beside my computer at work….. 😮

in reply to: Problems with stray dogs on MTB trails? #77838

I have had the same issue riding on dirt country roads between trails where the local home owners have dogs that chase anything that comes close to the house. Never hurt but I have used the flight rather than fight approach.

I have a dog myself and would never allow that to happen.

Best advice is to see the problem coming. My worst experience with animals on trails was a deer that almost took me out as it was running through the woods. Nothing like seeing the butt end of a 200 lbs deer only about 2 feet away from you.

Awsome links and pictures! Glad someone asked the question as I have been doing some searching but couldn’t find anything I liked. Now I have options.
