  • in reply to: camelback or water bottles? #114319

If you only use water you will not have too many problems if you keep it dry. If you use other liquids which contain sugar etc you will need to wash it from time to time. I use dish soap and just rinse it thoroughly. Never have any problems. If you dont wash it rather soon after you use it you will get mold. The wire brush that camelback makes is very useful to clean the tubes and reservoir. I like to keep the reservoir in the freezer which helps immensely in between rides.

Arrowhead trails in West Virginia is a fairly new system that is great fun and has plenty of flow. About 15 miles in all I believe. Longer if you mix and match. Its a stacked loop system. Great camping close by at Adventures on the Gorge. Plenty of other activities as well at the Gorge. New River Bikes will be able to help you with whatever you need. Great Pizza at pies and pints!

What is a shame is that you can bring the case at all…these cases would not be in court if the plaintiff had to pay all costs after they lost a frivilous case…just another thing wrong in our court system which contributes to rising costs for everything and for everyone! What is $17000 dollars going to do for her anyway? Just a cash grab…

Are you kidding me, that is just wrong! Sometimes when I’m riding I think of these horrible stories and hope they are not ahead on my trail, very tragic!

+1..find myself thinking that all the time

Dont worry about the brakes unless they dont work. I have had the Sole brakes on my FS and have put over 400 miles on them and they are working great still.

Welcome to the addiction! Allegrippis trails just north of Harrisburg are insane! Definately worth a trip. Nockamixon State park has great trails also. They are in the southeast corner of the state..

Don’t be too hard on yourself you could get hit by a garbage truck walking to the mailbox

Only if the mailbox is in the middle of the road

Even after a concussion? And you know better? Need to take the time to go back and get it!

in reply to: New to Mt Biking #112334

Welcome to the sport. Mountainbiking for me opened me up to so many other things. Once I became hooked I began planning trips out of state with some friends. With the help of Singletracks of course. Those trips quickly became obsessions. While we are planning we try and make sure that we look for the best fishing spots everywere we go. That opened up camping and even kayaking. Last year we hit three trail systems on our way to Class V whitewater rafting in West Virginia. Perhaps just as fun is mapping out all the micro brews along the way. Next year Kingdom Trails in Vermont. Point is…once you get outside its amazing how you will never want to go back in.

    Ride hard..be smart

in reply to: Newb With A Question #112509

Same advice here. When I got into biking I borrowed my brothers Mongoose and ended up replacing it for him. The rear hub / bearings etc did not hold up. That was before I really hit anything worth riding. If money is a big concern take your time and find something used. Many quality bikes on ebay and craigs list. Buyer beware. Better yet sell the roadie and use that money for a mountainbike…you will never go back!

in reply to: Would you like to ride without a helmet? #111895

How about wearing the helmet in the bar? I dont even notice it while im wearing it..too bad I look like a dick with it!

in reply to: Lance Amstrong #112055

They ALL dope. So what is the advantage? To do this after so much time is crap but Im sure they have some good evidence for him to back off. This guy is so tough he should have been a mountain biker all along!

in reply to: My first solo Maah Daah Hey bikepacking trip #110367

Sounds like a great trip even with all the troubles. I wonder what you would have done differently? Bike panniers or maybe a small bike bag or two would have taken some weight off your back. Anything you packed that you would not have if you did it again? That pack looks stuffed to the gills!

in reply to: What tires are you running? #109572

26 x 2.1 Kenda Small Block 8. Great for the dry season.

in reply to: Help, need a weekend ride #108703

There is a great trail system in Pennsylvania. It is called Allegrippis trails. It is a six hour ride from Long Island. You can stay at Lake Raystown resort. They have a hotel and decent cabins. Not much else to do unless you like being on the lake and or boating and fishing. It is a beautiful lake, but more of a camping area. Otherwise you could try Jiminy peak resorts which is in New England.

in reply to: Where to downhill/cross country in Vermont? #108048

Jiminy Peak and Killington both have down hill ski areas open to bikes in warmer weather…believe they are both in Vermont.
