I would say ask your doctor first.
I had the same surgery L4-5. I ride now, after years of being careful and not having fun, with one bulging disc and one that the doc called a split in it, plus I have degenerative disc disease. I have wrecked several times, but it is a risk I am willing to take. Riding keeps the weight off and keeps me active which actually helps with back pain and overall physical well being.
