Thanks Jeff and Keith. Searching for a new bike and having never ridden a bike with disks just wondered what the major difference was.
Related, are hydrolic disks way better than mechanical or just a nice upgrade?
Triton189 you have no idea how young 54 sounds lol.
Thanks for your response, I’m very happy to be back into MTB. But boy a lot has changed since I last was riding. Especially the prices, but I guess it’s all relative. Let me know if you get to try one of the new plus bikes. There’s quite a bit of sand here in Arizona so I’m thinking a plus might be the way to go. Thanks again
I’m also still riding with rim brakes. And the seem ok, but personally I can’t wait to try disks.
John,Jeff and mulehead. Thanks fo your response all very helpful. As I can’t and don’t want to spend 3 or 4K on a bike. So it’s good to hear that at least “some” of the new lower end components are much better than they were, back in the day. Right now I’m still leaning toward a 27+ but am hearing good things about 29’s. The search continues. Meanwhile the old stumpjumper keeps rolling along. Thanks again.

Verndozier, how was the service with bikes direct? I’m looking for a new bike, and their prices seem almost to good to be true. And the website is a little hard to negotiate, at least for me. Thanks in advance for any feedback you might have.
I’ve also been looking a lot at the bikes direct website. Does anyone have any experience with them? I have heard of bikes arriving in not the best condition. Also the prices seem almost to good to be true.
Always wear gloves. One good crash in gravel and you will too.
