I Really love my KHS Alite 3000, the bike is better then I thought it would be and the frame is very tough.

Aside from the Avid BB7s, mechanical disc-brakes are pretty much ineffective. Those from Shimano are marginally ok, but the Hayes & Tektro are bad with Tektro’s being the worst.

Avid’s BB7 mech brakes are actually better than many of the cheapie hydraulic brakes. But with older model hydro brakes becoming so cheap, it’s really pointless to stick with V-brakes or mech disc brakes. For example, the Magura Julie is one of the best base-model hydraulic brakes on the market, and they’re selling for $70 each ($140 together) on CBO. In fact, the Julies would be at home on any high-end XC bike for their light weight & stopping power.

I got to disagree with you a little bit on something. The Hayes Mechanical brakes have worked great for me, and I prefer there Hayes Strokers over Juicy.

Now, as per DH racing, Marla Streb is a top dog in my opinion. She is an inspiration to DH racing and a inspiration to me as well with my DH racing. I know that there is other great XC & DH racers out there by far, and my hat goes off to them all as they all are winners in my book. 😃

    What about Sam Hill?

I have had a lot of people tell me this is the best Rattle Can job they have ever seen. It took me about a week and half to do this and the parts. About three days of prep work and three days of painting, and some days for drying in between.

It’s different, what is the name of the color?

The color is Harbor Blue, with Copper and high gloss white parts.

Don’t over look the Fisher also. Also look take a look at Voodoo they may not be a bad choice.

The GT is a very heavy bike. Have you looked at the Specialized, I know they some stores in the UK and may ship out of them. I would really look at them for the money you want to spend they may have one of the best choices for you.

I think the Kona is speced the best out of them all and is also a solid brand. What is your price range in US Funds, I can give you some other ones to look at off of that.

Haro Is better at making BMX then they are at making MTB and are on there way to becoming a Wal-mart Brand

The GT frame is Bullet Proof, I am basing this off a guy on my XC team who has one has his DJ, Freerideing bike. But he has changed somethings on it.

Focus looks like a waste of money for what you are getting.

Also try top stay with the Dart line of Forks I think they are by far the best fork in that price range.

I wish you luck, just keep in mind tho a lot of the people you are going up against, have the skill and the endurance. There is something to a lot of time on the bike. There muscle are very different and the body works different, from someone that is just in great general shape.I am not saying you not going to do good.

But just keep in mind not to cause problems for anyone because of your bike handling skills are not at the same level has the others you are racing against. That is a good way to make a lot of people mad at you, and you can get people hurt also.

if the sport group is anything like it is around here, just go straight to the back and stay out of the way. To tell you the turth I would change to BEG if you have only been riding singlerack for a few weeks. Unless you are a roadie that is a Cat 4 or a upper Cat 5.

Tell me about your self riding wise

    in reply to: help #74027

ride alot and eat right and get plenty of rest.

I am still a Clydesdale I was 238 at the docs but I had big lunch before that.

the reason I was at the docs is because there is something up with me. I can’t lose weight, unless I get food poisoning 😮. But at least I am not gaining any tho. But thats thanks to 100 to 250 miles a week of riding on none race weeks. 😛 I can’t cut anymore calories or I would not be able to function.

I got a race tomorrow, my class has to do three laps for a grand total of 30 miles, and it is going to hot out.And the trail is pretty muddy. I think I got a chance of winning it. You may be talking to the future USAC Michigan State Champ Clydesdale.

I think the Rockhopper has the lightest frame out of all if this. The 08 frame is made of M4 which is what the 07 Stumpjumper hardtail was made out of. But like what was said they are about the same the same bike.

Go test ride them all see which one you like best. That would be the best choice.
