Yes Greg, unfortunately Fats, which is 10min from my doorstep, is closed. We have not been able to ride out there for over two months due to rain. The shutdown is just icing on that stale cake! But alas, our local group, SORBA-CSRA, is trying to get it reopened during the shutdown, but the dang rain will not stop!!!
Depends on how cold it gets where you live and ride as to the amount of winter clothing you need. Where I am at, 2 hours east of the Singletracks hometown, ( shout out to Hotlanta!), the winter months usually consist of 10-20 days below 40deg. The rest of winter is fair weather, long sleeves and shorts type of riding. Year round for sure! Pedal on man!
You do not need snow to enjoy a fatbike. There are many riders right here in Augusta, Ga, where it snows once every 5 years or so, that enjoy the trails and paths on their fatbikes. My Dad, who is 73, rides a Specialized fatbike that has tires for dirt and paved paths only. No knobs. I can not remember at the time the name of it, but they are out there. Ride what makes you happy, and pedal on!
Good answer Jeff! I would estimate 95% of my falls happen when I am breathing like a grizzly bear, and going two mph.
Sounds like a gravel grinder would better suit you. If your not sure what those are like, look them up. Think mountain bike frame with skinny tires made for mixed surfaces. Grass, gravel, road, and dirt. Some even ride them on single track if it’s not too tech filled. Will most likely eat up the crushed limestone as well. Just an idea to throw at ya, pedal on!
DO NOT eat the yellow snow.
No minimum here. It’s all about the time I have. If I can only ride for an hour I’ll choose the best Loop for that. I could understand if you have to travel a bit before getting to a trailhead though. I am blessed to have a 10 min. ride to the closest trail system, which is FATS in SC, an IMBA Epic trail system. 6 loops, the longest is Great Wall at 7.5 miles. I enjoy my ride whether it’s a 5 miler or longer. Pedal on man, and don’t forget to SEND IT!
