Made the trip yesterday. It was awesome! Probably the toughest 25mi I’ve put in so far.The Vortex was just insane…will probably hit that first next time rather than at the end of the day, I’ll probably do better then. Santos is a pretty impressive place, was worth the 100mi drive.

The trip was canceled the night before thanks to some strong thunderstorms that rolled through Ocala. We are trying again next week. Hopefully the weather will cooperate. Been keeping busy Alafia and Balm Boyette. They are in great condition and riding fast. SWAMP has also added a new addition to North Creek called Magic Island…its a lot of fun to ride. Will post up next week if we make it out.

Almost there! great work man. the fluctuations are normal but are soooo much more frustrating the closer you get to your goal. I battled the same when I set my goal to lose 50lbs. You’ve got the right attitude and should definitely feel proud of your progress. It is not easy but well worth it.

Absolutely. Just sent you a PM.

    Sounds good.
BTW, how do these trails compare to Alafia, Carter or Balm Boyette? The reviews seem a bit mixed.

Looking to be there by about noon. My sister is taking an exam that can take up to 5hrs so i am hoping to ride at least a couple hours. If you could manage some time on monday that would be cool.

in reply to: Weather today. #116091

Its not too bad in the Plant City area. A little storm last night but mostly sunny now. Hopefully it continues so I can ride tomorrow. Planning on hitting Alafia.

Anytime ya need a hands on lesson bro, just give me a shout, and i can make plans to make it over that way one day.

One good thing to do is to watch, ride, and learn from more experienced riders than you. A good lesson to be learned will come from this… 😉 😆

I may take you up on that once you have fully recovered from your last ride.

in reply to: Annoying Issue when reinstalling front tire #115071

I dropped her off at my LBS today for a tune up and mentioned this issue as well so they can check it out. i messed around with it quite a bit and couldn’t get it right. will see what they say. i also took a nasty hit at Carter this week that has now caused my left pedal clicks when i stand up so they are checking that out as well…its always something! but i am learning so as i continue on and make fewer mistakes, i am hoping these little issues will also become less and less.
This pedal issue really bothers me though because the morning of that ride, i reminded my wife to keep an eye on how she positions her feet as we go between rocks and high roots. oh well. live and learn.

ive had the same problem recently and i finally got it straight then it rubbed in the turns made a zing zing noise but never rubbed going straight but anyways my bike needs a good tune up so ill find out…if i recall if you tie a rubber band around the front brake handle with the brakes applied then u loosen then retighten the caliper bolts to aline the caliper?

Already realigned the caliper. Its good to go again.
I spoke with my LBS. i didnt buy the bikes from them but he said he would take a look and if its an issue with the brakes (Tektro) he said he would try to get them cover any warranty issues if needed since its not even 4mo. I may take him up on that one of these days.
Im just going to use my platform rack for now. Sometimes i get too OCD for my own good.

in reply to: Adjusting Tire Pressure #114843

Great article and link. I have been practicing turning my knee out and putting pressure on my outside foot. Not sure ive been turning my upper body as well. Will be heading out to Carter tomorrow and will give this a try. Thanks again.

in reply to: Adjusting Tire Pressure #114840

Thanks everyone for your input. I rode a bit Christmas day and lowere the pressure from 60psi down to 38. Definitely notice a big difference. My wife did as well. Looking to ride again tomorrow and may drop it down a bit more…maybe, It felt pretty good at 38. I think learning to take corners and turns better helped as well. I was using my handlebars way too much.

Managed to get in a couple hours at Alafia with my wife and BIL. The trick was inviting the wife. We had a blast and it helped my BIL break in his new bike!

in reply to: Adjusting Tire Pressure #114836

They are the stock tires that came with the bike…Maxxis Sphinx. 26 x 2.1 in front and 26 x 1.95 on the rear.
The Psi listed on the tires is 35-65psi.

in reply to: Adjusting Tire Pressure #114834

Thanks man. I am going to try the lower pressure next time out. Pinch flats are a concern but so is another sliding incident that leaves me on my back again! How common are pinch flats and is that caused more by going below a certain threshold?

BTW, Carter is now in jeopardy. I made the mistake of asking my wife to join assuming the grandparents had no plans. not so lucky as they are out of town this weekend. so now since she can’t go, apparently I can’t either as I already rode too many times this week without her. not sure if that is a fair stance on her part but i’m gonna let it slide for now and likely stay close to home. If I don’t hit it this weekend I will definitely try it sometime next week.

Excellent info! Thanks a lot, I appreciate it.
Hope you and yours have a great Christmas as well.

I have been to Balm twice and Alafia four times already. They are both awesome! I finally did the Blue trails at Alafia and can now say with absolute certainty that I am hooked! After my first two laps, my confidence built up pretty good and i was able to start letting go of the brakes more and more. I still need to work on my braking while cornering. I did something funky on my last run and braked incorrectly on Rollercoaster and pretty much took one of the last downhills on my back and @$$. Definitely a learning experience.
I am gonna try to hit Balm on saturday and hit the blues there as well. Carter is pretty close as well…about the same distance as Alafia. I may head there some time next week. Will look up Santos. Not sure where that is.

For chain slap, wrap an old tube around the chainstay and secure it with either gorilla tape or zip ties.

Sorry to hear that man….seriously! What a BUMMER!! 😢

BTW, what part of FL did you move back to? Or should I say where in FL do you live now?

It is and it isnt. We always wanted to move back and be closer to family. I have faith that something better is in store.
    We moved to Plant City.

in reply to: Break-in Period for new MTB & Brake Vibration #114761

    Thanks for the quick replies!
There seems to be an important step that may have been missing from my break in period. I was never told to "burn the brakes in". Seems odd, but then again, I am new to this…so burning them in is apparently part of the break-in process. Although I have only had it for 2 months, I would have expected this to happen naturally but I guess that is not the case…so I did a few thing that I found on the LBS website and it seems to have helped, and they also mentioned that its still getting broken-in. so we shall see. I went riding shortly after and I did notice a difference. I also had a 16yr veteran check them out and all seemed good. I will give it some time before I worry about it again.

I finally stepped up to blue trails today and am now OCD about reducing chain slap…holy crap that’s freak’n annoying!
