I’m opposed–maybe ‘skeptical’ is a better word–to electric bicycle parts on philosophical grounds, too. The beauty of a bicycle lines in the fact that all of the parts can be manipulated by human power and mechanical advantage. Once a part integral to the operation of the bike needs to be charged, you’re talking about a difference of kind and not just degree.
Agree with all of the above. A sizable majority of the population probably can’t find at 10 mph for a hour on unpaved terrain. If you’re having fun doing that, it sounds like you’re ‘in shape’.
December 24, 2017 at 17:07 in reply to: Electric mountain bike helmets and saddles announced #231570So the idea that an e-bike rider needs a special helmet because of the greater power sort of puts the lie to the claim that an e-bike is no different than a regular bike, doesn’t it?
And I agree that more is definitely better. The other night I rode about half my ride without my helmet light because the battery wasn’t fully charged and I wanted to save it until I needed it. I forgot how much it helps to have light where you’re looking as opposed to just where you’re going.
