That is some shoddy work by what is supposed to be a pro mechanic! The rubber grommets will help tremendously. The frame should have come with those actually. You’ll still have a little wander in the middle for sure but should be fine. Good luck! BTW, where do you live? I may have to move there and open a shop…
Shoot me an email and we can work out the deets… [email protected]. Send pics if you can.
BrentI wish I had seen this sooner… I am a welder and have repaired several bicycle frames as well as adding disc brake mounts to a couple of aluminum frames of my own. No issues with any of them. I’d have fixed it for you… Sounds like you found a decent deal though. I also work p/t for a Giant dealer and we always do our best to help guys like you to find the best solution for your problem.
Read this blog about cornering skills…
http://www.bikecarson.com/2009/10/23/tu … ter-rider/I would experiment with tires as well. Some tires grab the trail much better than others. Ask around to see what others are using on the trails you ride most and try to find a set that works for you. Keeping in mind that wider tires work great in soft conditions, aggressive side knobs corner better, some tires are great on the front but you might need something different on the back, and dual compound tires are a must for all around performance.
Also… It is very important NOT to tighten those bolts too much, as you could crush the aluminum "wobblers" that help align the caliper.
Strava. That is all.
