Flume trail at Lake Tahoe. Those views cannot be beat
Totally agreed with m.krupp, search through the used sites craigslist, local ebay? pinkbike
It’s tough to list specific bikes but in my experience Giant,Cannondale and Trek all offer some excellent intro bikes.
One thing I would add is probably start with a hardtail (no rear suspension) just a suspension fork.
My first bike was an old Cannondale with a red rear tire. I still have the frame and just built it back up so my girlfriend can use it to get into the sport.
It will be much easier to service and maintain a quality bike.
Hope that helps! Welcome to the addiction of mountain biking 🙂
October 3, 2018 at 08:54 in reply to: A Bike Light that Automatically lights up Berms and Turns #248076Personally think this is a great idea! Way to innovate in the lighting area other than just making some 6000 lumen behemoth.
Really like the looks of the curved bracket to center the light, always hate that my current set up is off to a side.
Like the others mentioned I will probably still ride with 2 lights because getting stuck in the woods in the dark is not my idea of a fun ride.
But congrats on your product, I’ll be keeping this in mind !

are both excellent sources add in youtube and should be able to solve just about any issue.
In regards to your question about maintenance and repairs I try to do as much as I can myself. Bought the Park Tool Big Blue book a bit ago and its a handy reference. When it comes to jobs like suspension tuning, bleeding brakes I let the pros at my local shop handle it. Its good to have a professional look things over that perhaps you might miss.
Hello,
First off welcome! Always good to hear a new person is getting into mountain biking.
Both bikes seem like great options. The Giant has a bit more suspension and nicer tires along with the dropper I’d probably lean towards this bike. ( I had a Giant Anthem and it was an awesome bike)
One thing I will mention is tubeless tires are really great. But have some pros and cons. You’ll need to be conscious of how much sealant you have and changing tires can be a bit of a hassle.
On the plus you’ll “never” have to worry about flats on the trails.
If you can test ride both at your local shop, or at a minimum see if you prefer the 27.5 or 29’er wheel. We are about the same size and I enjoy my 29er.
Finally are there any good used bikes in your area?
Best of luck!
I use a fox tailgate pad with my 2017 Tacoma and then a U lock thru the frame and onto the side hooks on the bed if its a sketchy area.
With the right tools no system is theft proof.
From my tiny bit of understanding you can… BUT the way the frame will be stressed is going to be changed, along with geometry etc.
I thought about 10 maybe 20 mm + or – was as far as you should push a frame.
What material is the frame made of? Have you considered changing tires and air pressure to adjust ride quality?
I’m assuming you’re looking for a smoother ride
Between these two sources you should be able to learn anything you need!

Glad to hear more enthusiastic bikers are joining! Best of luck with your new gear and would love some follow up posts or pictures with your single track that’s a very cool project!!
Happy Holidays!
My very first true mountain bike was an aluminum Cannondale, F300 I believe. Never had any issues with it and still own the frame! I bought a new Cannondale F29er 3 and again no issues whatso ever. Maybe I’m swayed because they were my first brand but I have a lot of faith in them. Did you or your friend personally have any bad experiences with Cannondale?
I’ll start this off!!
I have a Cannondale F29er with a lefty fork and I want to put some wider tires on. What is the easiest way to calculate a maximum tire width and how does my rim width affect things?
Great work on the clean up! Stoked to see how the other bike turns out. Your dad has a good motto but I get bored with the same toys too
Hey! I agree with the choice of hardtail. Also just a thought but look around for a good used bike, perhaps bring a friend who can help. I started with a well used Cannondale and it’s one of my favorite bikes I’ve owned!
