I use Sette Enduro Shoes, combined with Wellgo Pedals. Its one of price points combo deals. The shoes are for flat pedals and SPD.

I didn’t read really any of the above so this might be just me repeating what someone already said.

I think riding with someone who is better than you can help you be a better rider. I ride with a friend of mine most of the time. He got me in to riding, and I generally follow him. When we get to a complicated section that looks difficult he always stops and looks back to see if I try it. If I get freaked out or scared he comes back and lets me watch him do it again, and gives me pointers on how I should attack it. Just in my last ride I did several things I would have never tried solo. Had everything to do with me seeing how he attacked the obstacle.

Thanks for the link. My father lived around there when he was a kid, so I am sure I can find it and check it out. Seasons pass is not that expensive so I might go that route if the trail is nice, but I hear it is.

I went out there yesterday and it is a fun trail. Did most of all the trails, I think even some old ones that were not marked but were obvious trails. There was a small amount of mud in some places, but nothing huge. We had a good time, might go back again next week if the weather works out.

Does coming across two lesbians under a tree count??

Coming down the ‘road’ from Lion’s Loop of the Kokopelli trail, 2 girls having a bit of "girl" fun. Sorry, I was going a bit too fast to stop and get a picture…but I did go off the road for a bit – scared me enough to refocus my attention.

as you spun around to get a better look 😉

Nice looking Sette! What fork do you have on there?

I’ve considered picking up a Flite frame for a backup AM rig/something to loan to friends when they visit.

I’ll take some pics of my setup tonight…I’m installing a new saddle and a Stans NoTubes setup this eve.

Like your homemade stand too…I had one similar…now I have a bench mount stand that slides into my bench vise.

It is a 2009 Manitou Elite R7. Hopefully its first trail run will be this week (the fork, not the bike). Its seen small stuff, but nothing over long distance.

You gotta read the fine print…Specialized doesnt ship online orders unless you are an authorized dealer. I bought online for my first and I truly regret it. I had to mend some fences at the LBS but after buying a set of $900 wheels all was well again(and other countless items).[/quote:pz9geo5u]

Did I say something about ordering online from Specialized?

in reply to: Saxon Hill Trail Day — VT #80451

Thanks, we will if its not a mud fest Thursday. Should be pretty good, no rain by then I think.

I still say support the local shop. Earls, SkiRack, and Alpine Shop all support local trail work, events, and the like.

I do my own building and tuning, but I go buy the bike from a LBS. I don’t rely on them for the service, just the sale.

Having friends at the LBS is key. I have gotten several pro-deals on parts and frames, just for that reason.

Bought a Derailleur hanger from Earls just the other day, still need to pick it up. I ordered it, they said it would be in Wednesday. Well it never came, called them up they said it was back ordered. The minute they told me that, I ordered one online, had it the next day. I had planned on buying new gloves, and helmet while I was there but I never went so I bought everything at Jenson USA, paid for overnight shipping and got it in a blink. Lost a sale because they didn’t get it when they said they could. Needed my stuff fixed by that Thursday, the hanger came the next day.

They did rise to the occasion when I just walked in with a broken hanger from my Windsor Road Bike. The guy sifted through all the hangers. When he didn’t find it he ordered one. But fell short in the end, not exactly there fault but it still put me in the inconvenient place.

The Ski Rack saved me when my shifter broke. They sold me a X.7 Set for 47 dollars which was 20 bucks off there price and exactly the online price at Price Point. You dont need to be best friends with your bike shop to get a good deal, or get good service. You just need to have passion for biking and they will help you out the best they can. If they dont, then they dont deserve business from anyone.

I am not saying dont support your LBS, in fact most riders depend on them to work on there bikes, and they are handy in a pinch when you need a tube or some emergency item. Just not for me when it comes to my normal parts purchasing.

Do you have any better directions to Sunny Hollow? From Burlington would be good.

Sorta like this one? No trees growing out of it yet but somehow this truck made its way to the top of a mountain on roads that have long been overgrown.

Bit smaller, but the same thing.

Best upgrades you can do to that bike is a Fork and new wheels. To get a good set of wheels and nice fork, you will probably spend twice what the bike cost so I dont know if that is really worth it to you.

I would wear just a normal helmet, a full face is not needed for XC. You also shouldn’t need any other padding unless you normally fall a lot.

in reply to: Buying a bike online? #88898

Buy online, I have done it twice now. I have a Sette Reken which is just a frame that I built up. I also have a Windsor Wellington 3.0 which is a road bike from http://www.bikesdirect.com. What are you looking to spend, and on what kind of bike?

in reply to: Weird Stuff on the Mountain Bike Trail #88930

There is a old truck in the wood, which was obviously abandoned in a empty field then the tree come up are it.

My personal experience was bad with a Walmart bike, specifically a Next. Cost me literally 70 dollars and was as happy as a clam. First ride was something like 10 miles, everything went good. The ride was on road, never even dawned on me back then to ride off road with it. Every ride after that my non drive side crank arm would fall off. Started getting some ghost shifting for no real reason. After it sat around for a few years, my roommate and now best friend/biking buddy got me into wanting to ride. So I took my bike off road, which was a bad idea. Ghost shifting is horribly frustrating when riding a trail. My crank arm fell off and we were unable to find the nut that holds it on. Ended up using one of the nuts the held the front wheel on. So I literally road home with one nut holding my front wheel on. My back wheel was so out of tru that I had to disconnect my rear brake just so I could peddle.

That was my last experience on that bike. My room mates brother donated to me a old Rigid Steel Schwinn Single speed, until I started to build my first bike.

Not illegal, and I applaud Thule for helping out a retailer by purchasing there old Yakima stock when Yakima refused to take it back. Who cares what Thule does with it. No different then someone selling something on ebay, or amazon. They bought the product legally, and they are selling it legally.

I have these cranks. Installation is easy, they look nice. + you get a decal in the box if it comes with a box. I also payed over 20 dollars more for them but it was last year.

It is a amazingly speced bike for the money. Never ridden one but I do have a road bike from them, and it is working out so far. I would also take a look at this one http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/mot … ti_09x.htm. The titanium will last forever. Your not getting as good as parts, but the frame is better.
