I just ordered a shimano XT groupset from universal cycles for a real good price.

in reply to: Trek STORE sold my Lawaway 2 days later #589018

Contact Trek customer support and let them know about your experience. Maybe they can offer a helping hand or at least get in contact with the store to see what the problem there is. I wonder if one of the employees friends wanted the bike so they just decided to sell it out from under you.

Also if anyone would have any info on how wide a tire will fit in this fork.

    Thanks,

    Brian.

Add an other mulled fan here!  These where my first and current clip less pedals.  They are great to learn on because you have the platform for the more technical sections at first.  They are easy to get out of in a hurry (unless you have the pins adjusted too high!) but I have never accidently in clipped.

I would also recoment fiveten shoes.  They will be more like what you are accustomed to when beginning.  They are just like skate shoes with very sticky soles for when riding with the platforms.  I also find it much more comfortable to walk with the fivetens rather then the more traditional cycling shoes with hard plastic soles…

in reply to: Is Trail Work as Fun as Riding? #186178

I have just as much fun designing, flagging and building trails as I do riding them.  Especially during our group trail build events.  I enjoy meeting all of the new people that come out to each build and teaching them how to build sustainable trail.  And the biggest benefit is all of the added trail we have every year!

in reply to: New Toy for me – Fiskars 32 inch lopers #120217

I will have to take a picture, but I just bought a sweet set of composite folding loppers from a local flea market! They are awesome and fold up so there are no exposed metal edges to catch on anything in a pack!!!

Also, around my parts you can use a chainsaw on public trails if you are USFS certified…

in reply to: Will Tire fit? #121417

Not sure I understand. The tires will fit the rims most likely, but it depends on what frame and fork you will be putting them on. The real issue you may run into is the tire hitting the chainstays and the fork lowers..

in reply to: Help Deciding on a Bike #121347

There are people who ride hardtails at Whistler! It is all in how you ride it and learning on a hardtrail will teach you how to pick a smoother line, mostly because you have to!!! Either way a good rigid frame can be ridden close to any mortal mans trails. I ride with a lot of folks on really technical terrain and they ride single speed full rigid bikes!!!

The strangest thing I ever witnessed wasn’t on the trail itself but in the parking lot of a somewhat-local trail. The particular trail is inside a park. This park is known for being a spot where creepy old men meet up with other creepy old men and do creepy old men things together in the woods.

I had just pulled into the parking lot and gotten out of the car when a creepy old man pulled up next to me in his pickup truck. I had forgotten about the stories and thought nothing of it when he propped open his door and stayed seated in the truck, turned slightly towards my direction. I unloaded the bike from the roof rack and my riding gear from the trunk…feeling the glare of the geezer the whole time. When I jump on the bike to hit the trail I had to roll past him. “what the hell is he shaking?” I thought as I rode by. As I got closer…”Oh…that’s his weiner” This nasty ass geezer was floggin the dolphin right there in the open. I yelled some profanity at him and rode off into the woods, nervous to come back to horny harry giving himself a handshake in the parking lot but he was gone when I got back. And that’s the last time I rode those trails…luckily, they weren’t that fun anyway.

Should have gotten his license plate and called the cops…

in reply to: DISC BRAKE UPDATE ON CANNONDALE #120972

First off with the brakes you can do like I did and check local adds, craigslist, and MTB forums and also ask around at the local bike shops about used options. I picked up a set of avid elixir 3’s for $75 from my local bike shop. You will have to look at your wheels hubs to see if they are disk ready. There will be six threaded holes on the non drive side of the hub. If you can not find a good used set of brakes look at pricepoint.com. They have good deals on brakes.

Next with the shoes it really depends. Are you riding clipped in or on flats?

I was just about to buy bb7s from pricepoint and use my levers when the mechanic at my LBS offered me his take off elixer3s, $75 for the pair! I jumped all over that…

They rims on your bike are double wall from the factory. As for upgrades, check out pricepoint.com. They have some good prices and do a lot of sales. You can pick up a nice set of hydraulic brakes or some bb7 mechanical calipers if you just want to upgrade to better cable brakes. As for gear sets and wheels. depends on your budget. You can go on crankbrothers.com and check out their upgrade program. I am thinking about going for this one myself!

in reply to: Best Shoes For Platform Pedals? #120838

Just ordered my Five Tens. Went withthe Minnars, I wanted the best of both worlds. This will be my first time with clippless and wanted a shoe that will do double duty incase I decide I don’t like it. It would suck to be out the money on clippless specific shoes…

Hello and welcome to the forums. I also am riding a 2013 Trek Marlin and have had no problem at all from it. What is the problem you are having with the lock out. It is a mechanical lock so you can only switch it while there is no load on the fork, you will have to take all weight off the bike to lockout! Suntour makes some great high end forks you just do not see them on many bike since they have such a reputation for their low end stuff. But they are trying to get their high end stuff out on the market and they are offering a customer loyalty program to anyone that has a bike that came with a Suntour fork from the factory. I am looking into this but need to get a wheel set with 15mm front axle first. But with the program you can upgrade your fork for a significant discount… The fork I am looking at from them has a $750 retail and I can get it for $390. It will be close to three lb lighter then the stock fork that came on my bike! So if you are looking for an upgrade I would contact Suntour about their Loyalty program first!

in reply to: Best Shoes For Platform Pedals? #120829

They are called the Vans Gravel. You can still find them on Amazon and there are also some of the five tens that are set up the same way. I am looking into the Five ten Minnars and Hellcats. All of the reviews I have seen say the vans do not have as stiff of a sole as some of the other convertible shoes out there. I do like the look of the Vans though, they look just like the old schools!

in reply to: Tubes Valves fail #120566

It would be more helpfull if you had pictures or a better description of how the valve is failing. Are you closing the valve after inflating the tires, is it both the front and back tire that are haveing the failures? Aslo like Schwim said that is a lot of pressure if you are trail riding. I have a 2013 Trek Marlin what would have the same wheels as you and I run 30 to 32psi for all riding and have never had a problem at all. Give us a little more info about the problem so we can be of more help.

in reply to: Official Thread: 2013 Trail Contest #119728
