Unleashed dogs really suck, but people with their dogs on twenty foot retractable leashes are even worse. Then, when you get a gaggle of old ladies with their flea-bitten little rat bags sniffing one anothers’ butts (the dogs, usually not the old ladies) it’s time for the brake test. Really ruins my mood.
My Wife and I started together VERY recently and are having a great time. I did a bit of homework before we went shopping and told her what I had learned about disc brakes, suspension travel and stuff and off she went.
She bought a Novara Bonita from REI for seven cents less than my specialized hardrock. She’s really digging it the most, especially when she’s feeding me a big juicy helping of trail grit, which is every time.
I guess all this is to say that I’m feeling you when it comes to finding that new thing in common. It’s really great. Oh, and the Novara may be worth a look, it seems like a nice ride for the price And it’s purple."Asfyxiate" wroteOdd….

….?[/quote:253il5pb]
Okay fair enough. The super cool backpacks reference was a bit incongruous in the context of the narrative. It’s just the way I write. I use unexpected combinations of ingredients when I cook, too. Sometimes it comes out delicious and sometimes it just comes out strange.
I don’t normally explain this stuff but I am new here and I want to get along. 😀"decker1x" wroteok i just took a ride up the hill behind my house and wow thats a workout! its actually a pretty cool hill.it has 7 different trails, some steep and some not so steep.when i got to the top i was dead! at least the ride down was easy.i think i got myself a good little workout hill, its a two minute ride from my garage to the bottom of the hill.
SWEET! My whole back yard is a hill and I would be more than willing to carve trails all over it but my wife just ain’t feeling it. Between the monster hill and all the trails running out to your dad’s place, it sounds like you have a great place to sharpen up. What’s Temecula like? Is it desert or forest or what?
Hello Teufelhunde,
Once again, welcome (This time from a fellow new person).
This is really hands down the friendliest, most supportive group of people I have EVER encountered on a message board.
Good for you getting up and going after open heart surgery, sounds like a Jarhead to me (A term I use with the deepest respect).
I tell every Marine I meet that I always feel that I sold myself short by joining the Navy instead of the Corps. I have spent my entire life since then trying to find out what I am really made of. But hey, that’s the journey, man.
I worry about the direction we are taking as well, on main street as much as in D.C.
I do agree that we are in the wrong place to discuss it, but you can message me anytime you want and we can discuss whatever.I like the carbon footprint one (Except for arriving at the trailhead in my car)
and my bike was exactly $.07 more than hers (Novara Bonita)
Going down??? Not on HER T-Shirt (but it is amusing)
Better stick with ride like a girl…
Thanks again for posting that.
Oh, and the MTB food pyramid one (Except for the cheap warm beer part. I’m too old to drink cheap warm beer.) 😕"maddslacker" wroteperhaps this is in order:
Last summer on Monarch Crest I got smoked on a climb by a girl wearing a jersey that read "You wish you could ride like a girl" and yes, she waited at the top for her man to catch up.
Okay that’s just too cool not to be the latest addition to Cathy’s wardrobe.
Thanks for posting it.You got that right, man. My Cathy is the original "No excuses" girl. She’s never been one for any of this "but I’m a girl" stuff and she doesn’t like anything watered down. She totally helps me be my best.
I’ve been telling her for years (24) that I am the luckiest guy around. Kind of you to notice. Watch out fer skeeters!Man that’s an awesome deal on the Rincon. For that price I would definitely have capitalized. No worries though, let’s just have a good time Yipee KI-yay!
Hello…I’m new to the sport as well and I know the wide selection of bikes can be a bit daunting.
I bought a Specialized Hardrock disc and have been very happy with it so far. I’ve taken it down some fairly rough, if not overly technical, trails here in North Carolina and it has been awesome. I paid 470 bucks which was about as low a price as I could find for a bike with a disc brake, which is a must if you want to stop in the mud or the wet.
$500 was at the top of my price range, though. Another bike I saw that really impressed me with its features and quality workmanship was the Giant Rincon. It was only about $100 more and most of the components were an upgrade from the Hardrock, so it seemed like a good deal. I’m just going to have to get a piece here and there and hot rod it myself.
Have fun.Moose knuckle? BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I almost spewed coffee all over my monitor.
"maddslacker" wrote

…scanned it and played with the image using this program called GIMP.
So she is a Linux user…if she also rides a mountain bike, then she’s a goddess of coolness! 😆[/quote:190vjr23][/quote:190vjr23]
I guess GIMP may have been exclusively a linux application at one time but my sister’s machine is XP all the way. As for a mountain bike, If you saw a picture of her left hip, you would think of her as a picture of heroism just for being able to walk across the room. Plus she is deeply immersed in all the ways of coolness. I did tell her that I got a compliment on my avatar and she got a kick out of that. (Thanks CCR)"CraigCreekRider" wroteForgot to mention this before. Thats a cool looking Avatar. What is it?
My big sister is waaaaaaaaaay talented and she was inspired by the name so she made this avatar for me.
She started by crumpling a piece of brown kraft paper, then she drew the hand on it, scanned it and played with the image using this program called GIMP.
I have another shiny pebble avatar that I use on other pages. It’s a picture of the Sun firing off these huge flares.Hell of a pebble, I know, but it’s a matter of perspective.I went back today to scout a more suitable trail. This one has about a half mile of slow climb in the middle (It’s about 3 miles) but I can haul my fat butt up it without going into low gear, so I think it will work. It’s not all that exciting and not technical at all, just a good spot to do a little work. I do think there might be a way to get a fast ride down. I’m going back again tomorrow morning to see. Yeeeeeeah!
Sorry for the poor choice of terms. Yes adjust my shock would be more like what I want to do. Just a little more green showing. I hear that stuff washes off with mud and sweat… I’ll be sure to post this evening about today’s ride.
