dude been off the site far to long, how was your ride? anybody from florida riding lately? tune in and shout it out!

    in reply to: SWAMP #119111

I am not a member of swamp, but every once in a while I get to ride the trails that they take care of. I know that if I get a chance to ride that they have been there to keep the trails where they need to be even if that means closing them down to let the rain settle. I may not be their biggest fan but I can not say enough for them when I give it all I got.

Has to be Loyce Harpe Park for it is the closest and is pretty challenging and then Alafia it is more flowing, more trails and a little farther away and then there is Balm Boyette which is ideal except further away and a ride from the trail head. All very good trails in Florida!

I have a set of small block eights which run great on the road but does not climb loose soil that great. The eights are smooth and fast in the sand but watch out for corners with pine needles.

Thanks for all the help! looked up each trail and may hit a few. Have not set a time line up or where we are going to stay yet. Looks like it is going to be pretty cold for this Florida boy. Any suggestions on cold weather riding?

Also where is the best place to stay at and what order should I hit the trails to get the best flow?

When we ride in Sebring I always pull 3 or 4 ticks. My wife none. Maybe there is something to say for shaving the legs. Get with your club and see about trimminng the trails a little. I really have found nothing that works.

Balm boyette, Carter park are both a little over an hour a way from me. I am still a little green so let me know where you want to ride. ridgeline at Balm is fast. if you lift at the wrong time there is no landing. Carter has gotten faster but needs some maintenance. I plan on doing some work but not sure of anything major by myself. other than that I will don the basic of getting eye catchers of the trail.

I’ll be free sometime during the week if you want to meet somewhere between us. I would like to hit Balm Boyette again sometime soon. Although I have not been in the saddle for about a month and a half. Let me know. I have not been to the Tampa trails or any other up your way but with the price of gas I can not travel too far.

Dude sounds great. can’t wait to hit the trails. I have the whole weekend off now, will spend it with the wife. What time do you want to hit the trail? I loaded my bike in the back seat of my truck last week,"just in case" I find a minute to ride. I loaded all my other gear up yesterday. Not much to speak of mostly water, food, brain bucket, and of course tubes. I flat almost every time I go. I’m not too fat just ride wrong I guess. I got a tube from sunlite I think will help.

If scotkrzy can ride the more the better. I may need to make more trips up ya’lls way to hit different trails. I try to do trail work either on Wednesdays of Thursdays the weeks i am not working. Mostly at Carter.

    Bonsai-CP,

Sounds good, I’ll plan on going to the grape fruit trail. I will need some better directions then the ones I got. Have you been to the Fort Pierce trails? Thinking maybe hit those on the way home. Or if I go the other way hit soldiers creek. I’m about 2 hours from soldiers creek.

I only get to ride once a week at the most, but I will do a 1000 mile year. It don’t sound like much but I’ve only been ridin about 7 months. Of course I want to ride the fingers at Loyce Harp Park and make a complete run at Balm Boyette with out having to be carried out.

I currently run the small blocks. they are new but just ordered the serac made by IRC. Found them on price point pretty cheap. I needed something that would grip in turns better and I have had quite a bit of trouble with pinch flats. It should be here at the end of the week or maybe next. I will let you know what I find.

Had the same problem with my Giant. It was the pedals squeaking in every up stroke. The LBS took very good care of me.

in reply to: stem length and reach #99580

Hit the shop first thing and had a much shorter stem put on. It was 1 1/2 inch to 2 inches shorter for Jeanine. This and lowering the air pressure made all the difference in the world. She was clearing a lot more obstacles then ever before. Most enjoyable day!

    Thanks for ya’lls help!

Thanks, We will try again after I lower the pressure. We was riding 15 year old department store
"mountain bikes" until last week. It feels like we have to learn how to ride all over again. I did make it up a pretty steep climb for the first time. Should have looked at the other side first.
