If you’re willing to buy used… An intense tracer ’15 or’16 top of the line can be had for under $2k. The aluminum frames are built to last. Probably one of the best all around bikes in my opinion.

To answer your question bout the diamondback… Pretty good geometry, it won’t be too happy in the gnarly DH stuff but it will handle it fine. Line choice is key when taking limited rear travel bikes down gngrly DH trails.

Yes it’s worth buying previous gen models for a steep discount. Don’t buy into the marketing hype. I’d avoid 10 speed and look only at 11 speeds if you’re riding in the mountains. ,

Hi, I have on older trek 3700 with disc up front and rim breaks in the back. I bent the front wheel and found a replacement on Craigslist for 20 bucks.

With all the standards out there it gets confusing.

With disc brakes you’ll want to find a QR rear wheel, not QR15. QR wheels take a standard older style quick release skewer. Higher range MTN bikes take a beefier 15mm skewer(QR15). You’ll want to double check which kind you have.

I’d search craigslist for a decent wheelset if I were you. The stock wheels can bend under hard cornering of rough riding. Don’t spend too much as 26in wheels are considered outdated and you can get a decent set for 40-50$. Most 26 in wheels will take a Shimano cassette

Technique and line choice. But if your riding flats rock strikes will occur more often than clipless pedals. What size crank arms do you have?

If a local bike shop carries the Cannondale and intense I’d say ride it around the parking lot and see which one you feel more comfortable with.

The trance is nice, it’s meant for more aggressive trail riding. If you plan on hittung drops, chunky Rocky trails and jumps this would be a good bike for that style of riding.

The intense spider will handle anything you throw at it, and is a true trail bike. It pedals well and has enough travel for nearly any trail. Line choice is key when taking a bike with limited travel down chunky trails though. The Cannondale is a bit more XC than the intense, and it’ll handle all non gnarly trails fine. It won’t hold it’s line as well as the other bikes in rough conditions, line choice is key.

I’ve owned a Giant Reign and intense tracer in the past(160mm travel bikes) and personally think intense’s suspension provided a better pedaling platform. Giant’s suspension was a bit more plush to me, but I preferred the intense ride overall. Ive never ridden a habit so I can’t comment on how it rides.

With the 3 bikes you listed, the intense to me is the best bike to get.

Weather can b unpredictable in October. Over the edge bike shop in south lake offers shuttles and their website list popular trails and conditions.

Mr toads wild adventure is a must ride. Unless there’s a major cold storm it should be snow free till the first good storm in November. Shuttle Mr toads and at the bottom of toads take the road up all the way up to Armstrong connector. Bomb down armstrong connector and corral. This is by far my favorite route in Tahoe. Technical, fast, drops, jumps, berms. It just doesn’t get any better.

Shuttle- Ride Kingsbury (believe that’s the Tahoe rim trail section name) to van sickle, fun with good views, flume trail will have the best views.

Upper cold Creek is fun and I think if you combine it with monument pass that would be a great ride.

In graegle(bout an HR from Truckee) is Mills peak. It’s become a super popular fun trail.

October is the best time to ride downieville. Camp spots are everywhere, it’s bout 2 hrs from Tahoe but if you’ve never ridden there I 10000% recommend it. On the other side of the mountain is greagle so you could hit Mills peak the next day then go to Tahoe.
