Figure out a way to bike ride overseas – it’s driving me nuts being off the bike!

in reply to: IPHONE 4S as a sports camera? #111314

I use the GPS on my phone as a tracker for miles, hills, etc and it works really well! But that doesn’t really answer your question..

in reply to: transporting ur bike during rain #110642

If you’re gonna get it wet you minus well get it muddy- that’ll at least make the hassle worth it! I usually just dry the water off (more the chains then the actual frame) and my bikes always been fine for riding the next day.

in reply to: brake squeal #109423

I’ve been having the same problem with my brakes squealing and can’t figure out why. I took it into the bike shop and they said everything looked fine, except they adjust my front derailer. However, brakes are still squealing? Not sure if it is contributed to the bike being wet while riding or if I am putting too much pressure on the brakes while going down hill. Maybe I should pump the brakes instead? Any advice? Thanks!

That’s some good advice for the beginner. Maybe you should start a new post so its easier to find.

Agreed! Thanks to both CentralPark and Australian biker for the advice. Us newbies always need more experienced people to learn from! I’m excited to use these tips as I begin my goal of riding 15 trails in 7 different states 😃

Found the above article about diet, nutrition, and muscle recovery. Thought it was interesting- recovery begins BEFORE activity begins! Who would have known? Start putting healthy and useful food in your body one day prior to a race or planning to ride. Also, continue replacing the nutrients on the trail as you ride and after you ride as well. See the below article for helpful foods to eat.

The article above at livestrong is also interesting and gives what food your body needs to help repair muscles. According to another article on this site, the following vitamins are most beneficial for muscle repair: Vitamin A, Vitamin B6, Vitamin C, Copper, and zinc. If you go to this website it has a lot of helpful information related to diet, nutrition, muscle repair, and muscle building.

Sorry for all the reading- hope that helps! 😎

in reply to: numb fingers #110205

I rode 4 different trails yesterday, a total of 30 miles – I never had a problem with numb fingers. However, the 3 hour drive home last night was awful because my back was in so much pain. I’m guessing this is due to my position on the bike while riding or the height of my handle bars? Quite possibly could be from tipping over the side of a hill into a thorn bush- but I don’t think I fell that hard? Anyone else had this before? Suggestions? No rush- it’s not going to keep me from riding again today! Ice and ibuprofen accomplish a lot for the old body 😆

If/when you do find the actual location, be sure to locate it on the google map on the official trail page so that others can find it too!!

I submitted the location to the site based on where the pin was on my all sport GPS. It said the site needed to approve it and it is not showing up on the trail information yet. I also put in the review what my GPS clocked the elevation to be- not sure how to add that to the trail information at the top either? Do those managing the site do it or am I just not looking hard enough?

in reply to: Working when the weather is nice #109143

I think what’s worse is when it is finally nice outside, I escaped work in enough time for a ride for once, and then all the mountain bike trails were closed! All I wanted to do was escape and go biking- until I also realized I left my front wheel at the last trail I rode. DOUBLE WHAMMY. No trails, and no front wheel 😼

in reply to: how about a speeding ticket on your next ride #109009

I have definitely never heard of ‘clocking’ people on the trails. Seriousley.. why take the fun away!? That’s ridiculous that they have nothing better to do then ticket mountain bikers- come on policeman, there’s plenty out there!

This actually reminds me of a story from college. Our campus police had a reputation for many ridiculous behaviors: doing absolutely nothing, writing as many tickets as they can for completely irrelevant reasons, and trying to keep a not innocent campus as "safe" as possible by reporting the already innocent people. Anyways, one day at soccer practice the campus security pulled up and started to write tickets for every car parked by the curb because: "the cars were parked too close to the curb". Our captain, being as smart-allic as she was, yelled back: "Hey cop, you forgot to ticket my bike!". Maybe you had to be there … but stories like these always remind me of that! 😆

in reply to: Trail recommendations from Indy to Mississippi #108870

I have found out specific highways I will be traveling. I am looking for any routes along:
    1) I-70 west crossing from Indy to Illinois.
    2) I-57 S toward Memphis crossing into Missiouri
    3) I-55 S toward Memphis (passing through Arkansas and then passing into Tennessee)
    4) Any trails near Memphis, TN or Southaven, Mississippi

That’s just sick… I will pay you if you’re actually successful and can provide proof of accomplishment.

Love hearing that it’s not just me that hits the trails when I need to get away. Can’t beat the feeling of letting it all out amidst the great outdoors! Always good for the soul.
