Just got the brand new 29er XKING 2.20 from Continental. Easily the stickiest tire I’ve ever rode.

    • #109572

26 x 2.1 Kenda Small Block 8. Great for the dry season.

    • #109573

Schwalbe Smart Sam 2,25 on the HT and Fat Albert 2.25 on the FS

    • #109574

      Kenda excavator 2.35"

    • #109575

Currently kenda nevegal up front and wtb wolverine rear

    • #109576

MTB Weirwolf 2.1 with the rear tire backwards.

    • #109577

Maxxis Ardents on most all of my steeds, and then my big steed has Nevegal up front and Ardent in the rear. Ardents have awesome grip like the Nevegalls, but roll much faster and are much lighter as well. Even the Ardent dual casing DH tires compared to the same of the Nevegals are lighter and much faster…hahaha.

    • #109578

My Trance still has the Geax AKA’s that I reviewed for the site, and I got Geax Saguaros for the 29er.

    • #109579

2.35 Kenda Nevegal up front and a 2.1 WTB Velociraptor Folding Comp (Rear specific) on the back.

    • #109580

      Uggggh…Geax tires!!! 😏

They are horrible tires, and just about all the LBS’s here will not even mess with them they are so horrible. I have a set of Geax tires now on one of my bikes and those are the worst tires i have ever mounted.

Sorry madd, the mass speaks for those horrible Geax tires….hahaha 😆

Oh yeah, I did forget to add about the Ardents, they shed the mud and wet soil faster and better than the Nevegals.

Is this just like my horrible Race Face crankset that is still running three years later with no issues?

    • #109582

Specialized Renagade (29er). Great grippy tire, but don’t ride on pavement or you’ll burn up the tread extremely fast

Different tires for different conditions. Florida and Colorado are incredibly different.

Nevegals – I’ve got a bike on test right now that has them. GEEEEEZ. Those things shouldn’t be mounted on any bike that has to be pedaled up hills or across flat ground. They are sooooooo slow. I felt like I was dragging a refrigerator behind me! First ride with them I was absolutely killing myself trying to keep up with people I usually drop. Swapped the rear to the much faster Specialized Fast Trak and now it’s waaaaaay better. I’ll be swapping the front soon too.

    • #109585

Nevegals have killer grip though! I’m running one up front and a lighter tire in the back.

In loose dirt, yes they do. But on hardpack those big knobs squirm all over the place. To me, the grip isn’t worth all the resistance, there’s tires that grip almost as well in the loose and better on hardpack and roll waaaay faster.

    • #109587

I don’t know these things called ‘mud’ or ‘rain’ but for the desert southwest I’ve been very pleased with the AKA’s. The Saguaros are a bit different, but I’m liking them so far too.

The AKA’s are a phenomenal race tire with very fast cornering, but you can also claw up and over stuff without spinning out.

The Saguaros have some slip in those situations, but it’s a controlled slip, if that makes sense, versus some tires that go from 100% to 0% with no warning.

Fast Trak rear, The Captain front = SWEET fast combo

I rode Nevegals front and rear for the longest time. I just wanted to get in shape so I figured the added rolling resistance would help…plus I never lost traction on any surface lol. Once I switched to a fast pair of tires I started having so much more fun.

When you wear out the Captain, try the Ground Control. Faster with the same grip in all but the loosest of dry dirt. CG is better in the wet, it sheds mud better than the Captain.

I guess I should answer the original question LOL

      Singlespeed:
Front: WTB Weirwolf LT, 2.55" – lotsa volume @ 18psi = a little cushion on a rigid bike
Rear: Older Specialized Fast Trak, 2.0" – pretty fast, decent grip

      Geared Bike:
Front: Specialized Ground Control, 2.1" – grippy but still pretty fast rolling
Rear: Specialized Renegade, 1.95" – very little rolling resistance, very light (510g in the 29er size!), plenty grippy for a rear tire ’round these parts

      ^both of these are tubeless.

      Test Bike (rigid SS)
Front: Kenda Nevegal, 2.3" with a tube. Tubes suck. Heavy as a boat anchor and rolls as nice as one too.
Rear: New Specialized Fast Trak, 2.0", with a tube. Tubes really do suck. Great tire though.

    • #109590

I’m running Schwalbes (tubeless), 2.35 Nobby Nic up front, 2.25 Racing Ralph in the back

      Yes, they are very different.

BTW Madd, to each their own on the crankset issues or thing you are having…LOL I have nothing against any RF products, as i have a few RF products, including my D2 stems which i totally love per say…LOL. Of course with I am more of a Truvativ crankset man…hahaha.

Apparently everything I own 1) sucks and 2) is not recommended.

Glad we got that sorted out. 😆

    • #109594

Damn Madd, whats up with all the hate towards me?!?!? 😮 As you can obviously and you so elegantly re-posted from the deep depths of the PAST, it says "XC". I am not XC bro, and never will be, so they are weak to me and will never work for my discipline riding. I need some strong cranks that will hold up, including the BBB as well. Jeez!! 😏

Now stop putting things in the incorrect context (out of context other words) and freaking move on with this topic.

Jeez, no wonder why I do not frequent these sites anymore or very rarely, as the ego trip is still so damn inflamed…hahahaha

      ……Adios

    • #109595

Madds posts are hilarious because all I can envision is Cartman yelling at people…

In madds defense… Bonsai, you went a bit overboard on your thoughts about the Geaux tires..

      Just my opinoin.

You guys should "hug it out"..

    • #109596

      Respect my authoritah … 😆

    • #109597

Hahaha this is funny. Ya’ll bringing up stuff from 3 years ago and in threads that i was part of way back then. 😆 I still have my RF Evolve DH crank set that i got 3 years ago to…..

But as far Nevegals are concerned they are heavy, but they grab everything that i want it to. I think that cause i’v been riding on that tire for so long that i dont ever notice the weight factor or the rolling resistance. But truth be told, once this tire wears out i will more than likely find a "lighter" tire that offers the same qualities as the Nevegal. But for my riding, I cant beat the velociraptor’s design for the rear tire. I’m on my third velociraptor since i started using it on this bike.

    • #109598

Nevegals have been a popular freeride and ‘trail’ tire here for a long time, but lately I have seen those riders switching over to Schwalbe.

Schwalbe is also starting to show up more as an OEM tire too.

Maybe they want to send a pair to some Singletracks blogger for review … 😆

    • #109599

Speak of the devil, a pair of nevegals came on my recent 650b test bike

    • #109600

yeah one of the clubs I belong to is sponsored by Schwalbe and I saw the 650 sizes in the price list.

^^^ What the heck ever dude….."Just my opinion as well….hahahaha!!!"

They are terrible tires, ain’t nothing overboard about that…I said my working & riding opinion (thoughts) of them, speaking for our LBS’s as well, and I have that right to my own personal opinion/feedback on them as well as YOU & Madd, but there ain’t NO need for hate from either one of you over a damned opinion/feedback.

Like I previously said, I am out of here, as I don’t have time for ego trips and hate….Adi-freaking-os!!

    • #109602

Don’t get mad and take your ball home chili! You might think they’re horrible tires for you and your riding conditions and style (freeride in FL), but just saying "they are horrible tires" is a blanket statement implying that they’ll suck for everyone, everywhere, for every riding style. That’s what riles people up.

Someone riding XC in CO is obviously going to want and need very different things out of a tire than a freerider in FL.

    • #109603

      I like opinions and feedback…… 😀

I would like to put a lower profile tire on the rear but i doubt many bike shops are carrying much in the way of 650b yet

    • #109605

Bonsai, the only one in here spewing hate and ego is you. The question asks "what tires you running". People post what they are running…you took it upon yourself to crap all over the Geaux tires after someone posted that that’s what THEY are running…. Madd observed that you have done this before. I think he was just trying to politely let you know that your opinions are not really very good based in his experience with said products.

      No hate.

      Get over yourself.

After a brutal landing a week ago which burped my rear tire causing it to warp, I’m now running a Maxxis Ikon 29×2.2. It was only 20 bucks at Performance during their Memorial Day sale so I couldn’t resist! So far, it feels very similar if not the same as the Fast Trak. I dig it!
