I’m going to Moab with a few friends in a couple days and am having trouble deciding which tour company to go with. Rim tour seems to be the most popular, but I’m thinking the lesser known tours might be able to give us a more personalized experience. I’m not bringing my bike, so where should I get my bike? With the tour company? or the LBS? I don’t do the big drops or jumps, but I’m fairly quick up hills and cross country, so what skill level should I choose? And whats the best trail? Thanks for any help you guys can provide.

Porcupine Shuttle is a good choice with reasonable prices and they pick up at Poison Spider bike shop where you can rent a bike. Definitely ask the guys at the shop or from Porcupine about the best trails for your skill level based on current conditions. Have fun!

Chili Pepper bike shop has good rental prices on Giant and Norco.

Uranium Cycles rents very nice Ibis Mojo’s and they run their own shuttle.

I’ve heard Rim Tours is decent to tour with, and Moab Cyclery offers shuttles, rentals and their own tours.

Having said all that, call Marshall at Uranium, he’ll hook you up with a sweet rental and a shuttle, and give you enough trail advice to not have to use a guided tour.

      Good Luck!

Oh, and River Canyon Lodge’s heated pool and hot tub are open until 10-31. Most places have closed those up already…

If the Whole Enchilada is still open up top (the La Sals) hit it up. Otherwise, Porcupine Rim (lower part of Whole Enchilada) is a mainstay. Blue Dot Trail connects Gold Bar Rim and Portal or Poison Spider and is excellent technical singletrack with excellent views.

Soooo, how was Moab? Did you go with a tour group or use local expertise to point you in the right direction? Pictures, details, etc……
