This topic may have been covered before (sorry) but does anyone know anything about trials bike riding? I wanna take a stab at it but I’ve noticed that it doesn’t seem to be extremely popular in the US. There’s a bunch of trials bike dealers overseas but very few in the states. If you ride or have ridden trials, please give me your thoughts on it. Also, any good dealerships in the US?
Gotta admire this guy for taking up trials later in life –> http://www.youtube.com/user/surfcoast

I’m a long time motorcycle trials rider. In the mid 1980’s thru the 1990’s "trialsin" as the Europeans call it got pretty popular here in the US. At local events there would often be a bicycle trial after the motorcycle trial. These events were all off road but used natural and man made obstacles. The two most prevalent bikes were the Monty and the Maverick. There was the occasional Ibis as well. I believe the Monty is still available
I may be wrong, but I think the sport has almost completely gravitated to the urban environment. After all theres an awful lot of sweet obstacles to ride in the city.
The skill of these riders is absolutely phenomenal making trials a really great spectator sport.
FWIW, that’s my experience albeit a bit outdated.

The danger rating for this sport may be about the same as peeling an orange, but the skill required is unquestioned. The aim is to complete a predetermined route (up to 70 miles), and at various points around the way, complete small obstacle sections (as many as 70) whilst keeping their feet on their foot pegs.
