I have a 2013 Trek Superfly Carbon hardtail. The 2011-2013 all had the same rear dropout design made for a 135 x 10mm QR. I saw a picture a while back of the Subaru-Trek MTB Team running some custom rear dropouts for a 142 x 12mm thru axle on a 2013 Superfly hardtail. After some research with Trek there were only a few of these made for the race team and they’re not a commercially available product. I talked with a very good local Trek mechanic and we did some measuring and see no reason it won’t work. I made a CAD drawing and met with a local CNC shop about building them.

My question is… Are any of you out there interested in this conversion? If you’ve done any machining work, you know much of the cost is in the initial setup. So if I only have one set of dropouts made its pretty cost prohibitive. Same thing goes for hard anodizing.

I’m figuring that if I had 10 sets to make I could get them to you guys for less than $100. You would also need to purchase the 142 x 12mm axle. I included a picture of my rear dropouts and the 142 x 12mm thru axle dropouts I’m thinking about having made. Obviously the more I have made the cheaper they get. I’m not looking for $ from anyone up front. I obviously need to make a set and test them. I’m just curious if there’s more of you like me wanting to run a 142 x 12 thru axle on this frame. I’d really appreciate your feedback!
