To wax poetic: to be on a simple machine, depending upon it and moreso your own body to move forward and in some cases to simply "get to the end" is the great equalizer. A motorcycle, a car, a house…almost all other forms of technology allow for all to be considered as "equals", but these things are only capable of giving the [i:1oebyw4e]illusion[/i:1oebyw4e] of equality. It is the simple bicycle and the nature in which we ride it in, that define us as individuals and force anyone who is willing, to accept their limitations. One cannot "cheat" one’s self up a hill, or feign courage down one. A mountain bike, used as a tool in the remaining wilds is truly the great human equalizer because it takes more than a credit card, cash, to use it.
