Does anyone have recommendations for studded snow tires? I’ve heard some good reviews for Schwalbe Snow Studs and they’re cheaper than the Nokian Hakkas.

Make them yourself. Get a box of sheet metal screws, an old pair of knobbies, a dremel or sawzall, and an electric screw driver. A couple of hours and a few beers, and voila!

I had some Schwalbe Snow Studs, but I relied on the Ice Spikers instead. The Snow Studs rolled fairly slow, and were more suitable for a touring/city bike. Spikers are much better for mountainbikes, and there’s now the Ice Spiker Pro, which is much lighter than the standard version.

The streets in Laramie are sheets of ice. I ride about 8 blocks to work and have feared for my life every trip the last week. I think I need some spikes too.

      FWIW.
