Thats pretty outdated for a thousand bucks. I’d personally pass. The Trance is a great bike ( I have a 13 Trance X 29er) but thats too much moola for a 6-7 year old bike IMO.

So that’s like $560 US? Seems like a solid deal to me.

Sounds like a good deal to me.  Here is the blue book value: http://www.bicyclebluebook.com/SearchListingDetail.aspx?id=16883&make=683&model=60162

      Did you get it?

I can tell you about the bike, i own the 2007 26r.

Its a great bike all around. Back in 09 many bikes only had 3-4″ suspension, but the Trance was one of the few XC bikes built burly and given sweet 5″ of Mastro rear travel. It works tremendously well, no pedal bob except if your wight is moving around, and brakes w/o forces affecting spring rate, you forget about it and ride over everything.

OK whats the downside?  A few quibbles. Its a tall bike, with the travel and way the frame is made (for XC pedaling) you are a long way from the ground. Took some getting used to. The head tube is enormously long, I had to order a new fork couldn’t find a used one to fit. The wheelbase is a bit long with the 4 link suspension, I read about this, it never really occurred to me riding.

I use my bike for XC and also go over stuff like teeter totters, some small ramps and drops, I’m not a jumper however, its not a bike for hitting jumps (most Xc bikes are this way). It can be light, I built mine with a lot of pretty decent gear and 3 rings up front for versatility when I do venture to real hills and no carbon parts, and its 27lbs with a 140mm manitou fork and large tires – not too shabby. I think its a decent looking bike too. Has room for water bottle, the bottom bracket in my current root-infested trails seems a “tad” low, but on more normal trails I’m sure its fine.

Big question is are you concerned about going with 26? It will be totally obsolete probably in less than 2 years, and I own one. We’ll still have parts but all new stuff will be for the other sizes. For the price however, that’s a lot of bike if its in good shape. You can totally ride and have a hoot on it. Later on, if you sell for 350, it cost you $150 to have an awesome time for X years and you’re in better physical shape cheaper than any gym membership.
