Hey, I had a 2011 Specialized Hardrock Sport Disc 29er. I sold it a couple months back, big mistake. I miss it so bad right now that I’m borrowing my fiance’s bike just to ride. I’m shopping for a new bike and have been looking at several bikes. I’m trying to decide between a Specialized Rockhopper with 26 or 29er wheels, or either getting a trek 4500 disc. I don’t want to downgrade from what I had but my funds are limited as of to what it is that I can buy. Does anyone have any suggestions or info that you could let me know about these in order to help me make a decision in what to get? Any response will be greatly appreciated.

Just for starters it depends on the riding you do. I love my 29er but often think I’d be better served by 26" bike, especially in windy tight places. And depends on price. On new bikes particularly DS bikes it seams like $ goes a lot further on 26ers.

I guess it really depends on how much you want to spend. You can get a decent bike for <1k dollars by going with Giant…but if you are looking to build from frame up I’d look at http://www.origin-8.com for parts/accessories and framesets. They have a nice carbon 29er that was named top ten 29er products of the year by twentynineinches.com

If you want name brand I’d go with a Giant.

I bought a 2011 Specialized Rockhopper Comp 26er, but I’m not shopping around for another 29er, I’m getting into racing now and really wish that I had my 29er back, my budget is really low right now seeing as how I just bought the other bike a few months ago
