This past Monday morning we met with Charlie Logsdon to assess the trails at Otter Creek. We walked the Otter Creek trail from the nature center clockwise to the North Point overlook and then back on the Valley Overlook trail. There is considerable damage from the ice storm but it seems less than what we dealt with at Younger’s Creek. If we get a good turnout for trail work days we can get enough trails open to have two loops that equal or exceed the original mileage up top. I’ll know more when we meet again to walk the rest of the trails.
The trails will remain segregated with roughly the same trail layouts as before. We did identify some erosion issues that weren’t well handled in the past that we will put in the long term plan for the trails. I also voiced our concern for challenging natural surface trails (i.e. no gravel, leave the rocks and logs). We also have some potential since we’re more involved with trail planning this time around.
The question on fees for trail volunteers is being passed along to Fish and Wildlife.
Stay tuned for trail work dates and additional information that I’ll be posting as it comes available.
