I think many Singletracks readers have heard of NICA (National Interscholastic Cycling Association) which has leagues in many states in the US.  In case you haven’t heard, Ohio is having its inaugural season in 2021 (other states are newly starting NICA racing this year too).  Ohio started practicing July 1st, but kids can join all the way through the season.  First Race is the last weekend in August 2021.  If you know a kid who might like it,  or maybe would like to volunteer,  check out http://www.ohiomtb.org.  Kids don’t need to be awesome riders to join the teams,  all the kids get a chance to participate.  It should be a good time.  #morekidsonbikes

Tex, there is much to be gained with true stewardship along with good mentoring along the way!

Congratulations, Tex.  I’m a coach for MICL – Maryland’s NICA organization. In addition to learning skills, riding trails and racing, the kids also spend time (and get credit for) trail work. Our team tries to do that at least a couple of times during the season and usually once or twice off-season as well. We teach them trail etiquette as well.  So teaching them to not just ride but to love and maintain the trail system, and be respectful of the trails and others using them.  #morekidsonbikes
