We’re a group of middle-aged guys from around U.S. and Canada looking for a good mountain biking destination for four or five days at the very end of May – intermediate trails plus decent places to stay and eat. We were considering Bend or Hood River in Oregon but worried about conditions and weather at that time of year… does anyone have any insight? Any recommendations between the two (or another destination altogether)? All help is appreciated!

Why not Fruita, Moab or Sedona?

Or Salida?

Fruita/Moab/Sedona/Salida — all great recommendations.
I would add Albuquerque/Santa Fe to the list of considerations.
If you want to stay further north and do something out of the ordinary but still lots of fun, hit up Vernal, Ut. It is an intermediate rider’s paradise with an excellent variety of trails.

Should be nice. Tons of trails around Bend. McKenzie River is beautiful. Everyone who’s done both tells me North Umpqua Trail is even better. Heard there are also new trails off McKenzie, above the canyon.
Falls Creek Falls had some lush trails, to a Desert Rat. Oakridge has many trails and a MTB festival.
Golden Stairs Trail and High Lakes Trail look interesting. Paradise Royale in CA, too.
