There is a new map that was just developed for the Kickapoo State Park mtb trail system, outside of Danville, IL. This new map was built from a GIS (geographic information system) and provides some very interesting data about the trails. You really have to spend some time investigating all of the features available. It has many different layers to turn on and off. These include a DTM, aerial photo and challenging sections. You can also change the basemap, use the bookmarks to zoom to each trail, and check out the elevation profile per trail. There is a printable map, local bike stores, and even the parking areas have information associated with the location markers.
You certainly will not be disappointed with this map and content. I found this map as a great tool and I’m interested in riding there now. What do others think?

It definitely looks very pretty online! Is there anyway you can use this for live GPS navigation out on the trail?

This link has the GPS functionality. It is the source map for the previously posted map app.

This iPhone app, ArcGIS, allows you to use GPS location on the map. Search for KMBC in the map search, not address search, box. There is also an Android app.

Intriguing… I’ll have to check this out!

The second map site will allow GPS without having to download an app. It’s got these capabilities but it’s certainly not a biking app. Useful on the trail, sure, but designed for trail research.
