According to recent trail reviews a good chunk of GA Int. Horse Park is closed to bikes now. Can anyone confirm? What exactly has been lost?

Really?! This is a shame! Whatever’s going on, I hope the closures are not permanent. IMO, this was one of the best trails in the Atlanta area.

I was there on June 30th and all trails North of the gas line road were fenced off. We jumped the fence, naturally, but found the crews had dropped big trees across the trails even in the areas that were not being logged.

What kind of fence? Like a temporary looking fence or a permanent-looking fence?

I see… but the granite side is still open, right? Judging by the map I’d say the loop on the other side of the gas line cut was maybe 3-4 miles which is basically half the length. I’m surprised I haven’t heard anything from SORBA, they’ve been doing a good bit of trail work out there recently (though more on the granite side).

The Steeplechase side of the GIHP trails are only being temporarily closed in order to do some "selective logging." I found a decent thread on the SORBA website that has a response from the COO of Conyers. The fences are only temporary police barricades, but you can definitely hear some heavy machinery hacking away through the woods.

No word on when they’ll be reopening, but I hope it’s soon.

Ok, that doesn’t sound bad at all. This is a regular occurrence on trails in [i:33qpddub]actual[/i:33qpddub] forests, but I could see how it could be unsettling for those who live and ride in the suburbs.
