I read maddslackers post on upgrading your fork:
http://www.singletracks.com/blog/mtb-ge … sion-fork/and decided to take the plunge, except instead of upgrading my entry level Trek Marlin SS, I am going to build a new bike! YeeHa! It will be a Misfit Dissent SS. I will be purchasing a Manitou Tower fork to go with the frame, but I am in a quandry about pro or expert and the wheelset to go with it.
My trek has an entry level fork, a Suntour and an entry level wheelset… Botranger Rangers. This combination has quite a bit of flex which I would like to "steer" away from. 😃 I know that thru axle is all the rage now but don’t know if I need TA or if a better fork and wheelset will be enough with just good old quick release. I would like to go tubeless so I am thinking Stans or WTB wheelset.
I am trying to stick to a budget of around $1500 which includes some components that I already have. I am 6’5" and about 210 lbs and ride GA singletrack like Blankets, etc. The thru axle fork is more expensive and may force me to go with a less expensive wheelset.
Sorry for such a long post but, any thoughts? Can you help a brother out?
Thanks!
