At their Oct. 10 meeting, the Sawyer County Board’s Zoning and Conservation Committee approved a proposal to create a mountain bike mini-park atHatcheryCreekParkeast ofHayward. The approval of the concept is contingent on any permits needed.
Chequamegon Area Mountain Bike Association (CAMBA) executive director Ron Bergin said the bike area would be located in a grassy clearing approximately 200 yards west of the picnic shelter, on the west side of the ski trail.
It will be similar to a BMX bike park or skateboard park, where cyclists ride a circuit with a variety of features. But almost everything will be constructed with dirt, Bergin said. The park is designed for fun and exercise, not racing, and is aimed at entry-level cyclists with easy to moderate difficulty, he said. CAMBA will design the park and raise the funds to construct it.
