Second year we have travelled to the uber-scenic Carabasset Valley (Home of the Loaf) to ride the trails at the Carabasset Valley Outdoor Center.
Owner Bob Ash has done a great job with his shop at the CVOC and offers bike rentals, repairs, supplies, maps, hydration supplies, (locally made organic popsickles if that appeals) and friendly conversation about the trails and biking the area in general.
We rented 29er hard tails (Trek/Gary Fischer models) seeing as our bikes were still in Georgia. Bob rents the bikes (29"and 26") for $30/4 hours or $40/8 hours which I thought was very reasonable. After some good trail discussion and advice from Bob we set out into the hinterland with our maps and bikes and spent several fun hours riding the extensive trail system that includes technical single track loops, double track, fire roads, x-country, bridges, swamps (ask Bob which trails to avoid during the wet season, we slogged through several swamps) and moose.
Signage is good and trails are in good condition and well maintained.
Late in the ride we crossed one of the many mountain streams and enjoyed sitting with our feet in the cold, clear water (sorry to whoever was drinking down stream from our feet).
Great day and a great trail system. Could have ridden two full days and still not gotten bored.
Will definitely return next year and definitely recommend the CVOC to any and all riders.
