So I may be in this area for a while starting very soon…what’s the status of this project? That park is already very nice, adding trails would be incredible.

Yeah, I have been following this for a while now with much anticipation, as we (family that is) goes to Blue Springs quite a bit for a refreshing adventure. I have friends that are going to be working on the trail maintenance, even after it is built.
The only thing we next is the Big O to get off their lazy arse and get the Orlando MTB Park completed. A slow boast to China with that one….LOL
Man, I wish they would utilize those hills and build a DH run around those hills in central FL on up. I know they have the dual slalom in the Gainesville area. A sweet FR park dedicated to gravity feed riders would be the ticket.

Dual slalom in Gainesville? I have not heard of this…

Yep, it exist! It was started by and is run by the UF in Gainesville. It is in the area of "The Rock Trail".
If you look deeper into the SE Forum Board, you’ll find the info on it when it was finished and after a couple races were completed. A few members here have been to it, including ST member ‘scotkrzy’ here on the "Roll Call: FL Riders/MTBR’s (North FL, Central FL, South, FL)" in the SE Forum Board. Here is the link I just found to the original discussion of the Dual Slalom….

Oh ok I know the place. Thanks for the thread link too (I’ve ridden with Galaxy, nice guy). I’ve ridden most of Gainesville but the Rock and Split Rock will have to wait until I return some time in the future. Thanks!

Yep, Arron (aka – Galaxy) is pretty cool. Taught him a few things & tricks in the FR realm…LOL. Have not been up that way to ride with him is over 6 months, but most of this year I have been off the steeds anyways. Awesome slalom, well at least the last time I was there anyways.

I am making plans on heading up to Blue Springs in a few weeks to cool off in these dog days of summer, and to scope out the trail building.

I bailed on the project last month do to the direction the trail was heading. The original trail design was overruled by another larger group of trail builders so the original guy in charge quit and I soon followed. I just got dumbed down and all the elevation changes where bypassed and the direction it was going in was just not my cup of tea. It looks like a golf cart path IMO. Its a shame to because the second half of the property has a elevation change of 80 feet over a 200 yard run. Could have been a nice little down hill run but we could not get enough people to volunteer to keep it aggressive single track. We just got out numbered. 😢
We have been putting in a lot of time out at Doris Leeper aka Spruce Creek and remodeling the trail. We are making the trail flow fast. Fixing all the sand and berming up the corners. Give us a few months and then check it out. 😎

That’s just sad, but typical for central FL trail builders to build it that way. We here on the east coast, & west coast like the rolling terrain with technical thrown into it. That elevation, and know where you are talking about would have been sick and most likely a blast. Oh well, no sense in bringing the bike then. I can stay locally and ride that with the exception of our beloved GFT, with lots of elevation change among other fun stuff.
Yes, I have been getting word of the work you guys are doing at SC, and i been wanting to head up that way to check it out. Soon my friend, soon!
On-On!

What a shame. I guess I’ll swing by Spruce Creek for my own riding, but I’m sure the girlfriend will like Blue Springs.

YES! From the Chuck Lennon and Flagler Area Biking FB pages:
The Blue Springs Trails opening has been pushed back from January 1st to the 5th so everyone can recover from New Years celebrations. This event is nothing fancy, just a soft opening to let people know about and start enjoying the trails. The trails total around 4 miles with fire roads that go for many miles further. I would classify the trails as a beginner skill level. The new trail head in located about a 1/4 mile straight passed the main park entrance down the sand road on the right. There will be people handing out maps beginning at 8:00 am and a guided tour starting a 9:00 am. Come on out and show your support for another trail we can now mountain bike on that our club (Flagler Area Biking) has helped to open in Volusia County. -

I was over that way on Saturday and Tuesday when I was shredding Chuck Lennon, and the trails are there and look ready to shred. I did not get a chance to speak to that one ranger, due to her not being around at that time we stopped by. I look forward to hitting these up when I am up that way again for Soldiers Creek and Chuck Lennon.
If you have never rode CL before ‘Staindsoul4life’, get over there and shred it up, you’ll love it. 😄

Glad to hear someone has actually seen these trails. I’ve been following this project since there was a little sign on the ranger booth a few years back saying trails may be coming in the future. Looking forward to riding them soon!
