One of the reasons I like to mountain bike is to see some beautiful and amazing scenery. Some off it has been unexpected other times more than I expected. The weather also influences how I or we see our single track world. The Quaraing on the Isle of Skye Scotland last year was one of those places for me. Just so epic! Lord of the Rings epic!

What are your best places you have ridden your bike? (Linking photos would be great if you can)

One place that had amazing scenery, and GREAT biking is Whitefish mountain. You can do XC or DH there. Amazing place to go and try out.

I think I am spoiled to awesome because so many of my trail rides are awesome in Mongolia.

1.)  Hovsgol Lake in Mongolia, especially the northern end of the lake which looks like scenes out of Tibet.  Check out the photos posted here on singletracks for the Eastern Shore of Hovsgol Lake trail.

2.)  Gorkhi Terelj National Park in Mongolia (about one hour east of the capital Ulaanbaatar).

3.)  Almost any small mountain in the central and northern portions of the country in the fall.  The Siberian Larch forests are simply spectacular when they at peak.  The intensity of the yellow is surreal.  Check out some of the photos posted here on singletracks for The Beast Trail.

4.)  Similarly, the larch forests of Mongolia in the summer can be amazing too for the intensity of lush green of the trees, grasses and forbs.  Plus, the wild flowers are amazing too.

Besides the beautiful scenery of Mongolia, I love all the wildlife one encounters along the way in the backcountry.  Wolves, deer, elk, massive eagles, kites, hawks, falcons, the black woodpecker (cousin of the pileated in the US but even larger), pheasants, quail, partridges, grouse, owls, and more.  I have many cool stories of wildlife encounters riding in Mongolia.  One cool experience I briefly added in a review of the Zaisan Chutes Trail on April 30, 2015.  Take a read if you like.

I ride the beast at least a couple of times a month.  Good times.

I can’t help but ride The Beast often, because I look at out the window of my office at home every morn.  The Beast calls my name. =)

John, if anyone’s “been around”, it’s you on a mtb.  =)  Trust you and your family are well.

<p style=”text-align: left;”>I’ve ridden a few trails, not as many as John did. But every time I come back to Copper Harbor I have that unexplainable feeling of being in a special place.</p>

John Fisch. The Hole in the Ground photo looks different looks like ‘unexpected’! Looks artificial but obviously not 🙂

Those periodic white granite rock formations are what made Hole in the Ground so unique and special.   Drop them in the beautiful forest mixed with classic singletrack and this become one of my all time favorite rides.  Before dropping down the mountain and hitting the rocks, the ridgetop also has fantastic million mile views of the high sierras.  All around,  a wonderfully varied and very special ride.

This thread makes me realize that I need to improve my photography skills as much as my biking skills.

Hproctor: Same here. I have also realised that, well at least my photos, the photos do not do the places justice.
