I plan on visiting the Asheville area to get some riding in before starting a new job next week. Being my first time riding out this way, does anyone have any local recommendations for intermediate riders? I plan on packing plenty of water and food to make the most of it!
I have a short list:
1. Fire Mountain- Uktena > Kessel Run > Lazy elk > Spearfinger > Uktena > Waya Trail
2. DuPont- Lake Imaging Rd > Hilltop > Pitch Pine > Grassy Creek (is this a bad idea?) > Hooker Creek Trail
Also, are there any group rides going on?

When I rode DuPont I tried to fit in as much as I could on a single (manageable) ride within the time I had available. The 19 mile loop I rode was set up as follows:
Lake Imaging > Jim Branch > HillTop > Buck Forest Rd > Pitch Pine > Three Lakes > Conservation Rd > AirSstrip > Shelter Rock Trail > then back to Conservation Rd > Reasonover Creek Trail > Turkey Knob > Briery Fork > Grassy Creek > Wintergreen Falls > Tarkin Branch > Gurion > Hickory Mountain > Ridgeline.
By constructing the loop this way I was able to hit all the key trails (those bolded above) on that side of the mountain. I had an absolute blast and have recommended the same route to others that loved it as well. You can modify this loop to make it longer or shorter. If you prefer the slickrock you can take Corn Mile Shoals (at the bottom of Airstrip) over to Cedar Rock. But whatever route you ride you NEED to include (end) on Ridgeline.
