September 12, 2012 at 11:47 #112641We take you now to the 2012-13 Florida State Championship Series this past weekend in Tallahassee, which is a mountain bike race. Yep, big tires, rocks, occasional racoons and deer on the course.
All was going smoothly until three members of the United States Anti-Doping Administration showed up, flashed their IDs and demanded to test some of the riders. The race promoter thought this highly irregular and refused to cooperate. An argument ensued, and someone called the cops. Yes they did.
In the police report (found here), the responding officer said that he wasn’t familiar with the exact rules and procedures involving a cycling urinalysis test, and really why should he be? So he ordered all testing stopped and someone called the USADA office. An administrator told the doping agents to pack up and leave and the agency would review the case at a later time.

Really? Anti-doping agents at a Florida MTB race? I mean, if it’s a world cup, sure… but the FSC series? Really?

Well, Florida does looks like a certain ‘appendage" taking a leak on Cuba. Would that make the Keys the dribble?

I really hope that’s just a very bad joke on the USADA’s part.
The Florida State Championships, that’s college right?

No, I think it’s just a XC race series put on by these guys: http://goneriding.com/

I not keen on the "doping" of riders. Look, train the best you can and live with it. However I have always believed there should be two divisions within a sport, those that dope, and those who don’t. I know everyone wants to win, heck if I was faster, stronger, better… I might race. But in the end don’t cheat, and if you do you might as well be proud of what you are taking. At least let science in on it so they can say, wow that works, and nope it did not. Hey check out that tumor….

Oh, ok. "Florida State Championships" sounded collegiate to me.
