As the title states I want to change my bike (http://www.fujibikes.com/usa/bikes/mountain/trail/reveal/reveal-27-5-1-1) to 1×10, I am thinking of just picking up a 30 tooth narrow wide off Jenson. Maybe one of these (http://www.jensonusa.com/Chainrings/Race-Face-Single-Narrow-Wide-Chainring?cs=Green) (http://www.jensonusa.com/Chainrings/Shimano-SLX-SM-CRM70-Chainring?cs=Black)…… Would they work with my crankset? I don’t really want to spend much money just enough for a NW… is this possible for my conversion… Cheers!! 😀 February 14, 2017 at 11:18 am #207795 Alvin Mullen The Hollow Tech cranks are generally 96mm bolt centers, but some of the shimano’s symmetrical holes, and some are non-symmetrical holes. The second one you list will work if non-symmetrical. For sysmetrical http://www.jensonusa.com/Chainrings/Oneup-Components-9496-BCD-Chainring?cs=Black this should work. You just need to check you existing chainring and see if the holes are evenly spaced or not. February 14, 2017 at 12:06 pm #207800 bikerboy15 Mine is non-symmetrical… now all I have to do is wait until April 28th to get that chainring ughhh! Thanks for your help Alvin! February 14, 2017 at 12:34 pm #207801 Alvin Mullen Too bad, I have a 30t symmetrical I only used a month before I switched from 30t round, to 32t oval. February 14, 2017 at 1:37 pm #207804 bikerboy15 would this work? http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/us/en/race-face-narrow-wide-single-chainring/rp-prod109723 cant tell is its a non-symmetrical. February 15, 2017 at 4:52 pm #207942 bikerboy15 What would my gear range be with a 30t chainring and 11-36 rear cassette? Will it be a pretty good all round? February 16, 2017 at 12:20 am #207950 irudkin Try this site to show a gear range Gear calculator As for your second question go out and ride and see how it goes. February 16, 2017 at 11:42 am #208034 bikerboy15 Thanks for that! That is really interesting and useful! I was wondering is there any negative effects or things that I should consider before actually doing this? Just wanted to make sure that my bike will be all happy with the switch!!! 🙂 February 17, 2017 at 4:47 pm #208161 bikerboy15 I don’t have to get a new chain do I?? Can’t I just take a few links out of the one I have? February 17, 2017 at 5:15 pm #208164 Alvin Mullen Should work fine the way it is. February 17, 2017 at 5:20 pm #208165 bikerboy15 Ohh great!!! That saves me a lot of pain in the neck. 🙂 February 18, 2017 at 12:20 am #208189 MaxwellD you will love the 1×10 set up, makes a world of difference when riding. February 24, 2017 at 12:17 pm #208986 bikerboy15 @Alvin BTW 96BCD was the WRONG chainring. Only Shimano XT and XTR cranks work with 96bcd, Deore and I imagine SLX use 104bcd….. Just so you know from now on!
