Just wondering if anyone has any first hand experience with the Rift Zone 3. Theres lots of reviews for other bigger or more popular brands. Marin seems to get lost in the shuffle. I have a Kona already so I will say I’m a fan of less mainstream brands. I’m looking for something to compliment my fat bike for the summer months. We are pretty flat here in Minnesota, so I dont need much travel. Any input would be appreciated positive or negative. Thanks!

The short-travel progressive-geometry 29er is definitely the way to go and the Marin Rift Zone 3 looks like a pretty good bike. Also check out the Ibis Ripley, Santa Cruz Tallboy, Norco Optic, and Norco Fluid FS. For bike in the $2500-$3000 price range, you want to try to get the best fork possible. Avoid the Rock Shox Recon fork. The Marzocchi Bomber is a good fork and is actually made by Fox.

Vital MTB did a recent Youtube video comparing 5 short-travel 29er’s. Check it out.

I have a rifty 3 2018 (the black and silver). I love it TBH. I ended up bumping the front fork to a fox factory 36 150mm that I got on the cheap. It handles big stuff great, but fast bump kinda gets skittish.

I am actually going in for a n upgrade eval to go to a could system and perhaps get a bit more travel. The way I look at it is mostly a bikepark toy that I can easily ride on trails should the need arises. I just like a good DH bomb and I gotta get the ass end sorted out.

I would LOVE to hear about folks upgrading rifty suspension, especially in increasing travel. I am wondering how far you could go with a clever setup….
