New bike

I want to purchase a new all mountain 26 inch full suspension. Not sure what to get. Currently I own a Trek superbly 100 Elite upgraded just about everything to Shimano XTR with Enve wheels. My oldest son took over my Trek Remedy 9 so I want another 26 bike. Not really set on any brand but would like something Carbon with at least Shimano XT and then upgrade from there. I do not want to spend more than six thousand. Any sugestions would be appreciated thanks.

Personally, if I had 6 grand to play with, I’d probably forgo carbon for an aluminum frame and get it tricked out with the nicest components I could find. I mean, are you dealing with [i:nbx8jmya]5,000 foot rock garden descents, cased gap jumps and drops to flat on a daily basis[/i:nbx8jmya]? Then again, I don’t have 6 grand to play with, so maybe I [i:nbx8jmya]would [/i:nbx8jmya]get carbon.

Shoot, even with $6k you can probably get a carbon FS bike with GREAT components on it (X0 or X9 build). Personally, if I was going to get an FS 26er and had the money for it, I’d get an Ibis Mojo. Get whichever one would fit your riding style: SLR = more trail oriented, HD = all mountain. But even the HD is so light and so adjustable that you could easily do long trail rides on it!

We checked out several Devinci models at Outerbike and they were excellent.

And at $4300, it leaves you room to do some immediate upgrades. They also sell it as a bare frame so that you could build it up how you want.

I’m three months now on my Yeti 5 Carbon and loving it more every day. The thing is wicked fast, super nimble, and practically climbs hills by itself. It won’t be as plush as that Nomad Fleetwood mentioned though, which also has a very different geometry, thus underscoring the need for you to throw a leg over a few rides to see how they feel before plopping down that much coin. My usual riding buddy swears by his Ibis Mojo carbon as well.

Found a new used Santa Cruz Nomad Carbon. Built with all XTR and easton carbon rims. The guy is asking 7,500 he spent 8,400. Another good thing is he is right down the street a bit.
Sent a e mail asking what his bottom line is. I know its a great bike but is it worth what he’s asking. Also on the sizing chart for Santa Cruz Im right in the middle of a large and X large. I am 6"2 196 LBS. Comments appreciated Thanks http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/bik/3428235636.html

For that much coin, I’d look at a brand new Turner Burner 650b XTR build for $6,700.

The Turner is aluminum, but is built in the US by Turner, as opposed to the Santa Cruz which is built in Taiwan by Giant. (I own a Giant, so that’s not an issue for me, but just thought I’d throw it out there)
