I’m trying to get in to mountain biking so I went out and bought a 2012 Diamondback Response XE from Dicks. I read the reviews about the strong frame but sub par components, wasn’t too worried about it because I don’t mind replacing them as I go. Problem is, I’m not sure what to go with. I have a 7 speed cassette but most of the suggested derailleurs seem to cater to a 8-10 speed. Does anyone have a useful recommendation on a 7 speed derailleur? Or should I just switch out the entire cassette and go with the SRAM x9 as it seems to be the most suggested one?
‘Preciate the help.

Personally, I’d just ride it till something breaks.
THEN, go ahead and upgrade to a 9spd rear cassette/derailleur/shifter. 7spd is several generations old, they don’t make good stuff for it anymore, haven’t for a long time.

Thanks for the input. That’s probably what I’ll go with.
