I felt the same way as you did. But i had a single bolt seatpost and it kept slipping so upon a friends reccomendation i snagged a thomson elite of ebay for 50 bucks or so.
I dont understand why, but that seatpost is awesome. I dont know what it does, i dont know why it does it but it makes for a super plush ride (could be placebo effect). Either way i upgraded my mtb frame and had a stock seatpost on it and immediately missed my thomson. Went out and got one and its just as good.
i believe the technical term is magic.
