I use flat pedals and love the freedom they give me. Have you looked looked at the Five Ten Freerider shoe? I bought them last year after using a regular hiking shoe and the difference is amazing in terms of the amount of grip which they have. They are a skate style shoe, so they have more of a casual look to them. As for the clip less pedals, I have never used them so I can’t comment on them.
