I switched to eggbeaters a couple years back. Was riding some old-ass shimano 525’s that I had beat into submission…. I found the egg beaters needed some time to loosen up, but were good after.
The primary reason I switched to eggbeaters however, was that they simply work in the crappiest of conditions. Mud, grass, sticks, small rocks, none of this stuff really gets stuck in them. Plus you can clip in in either direction (push forward or pull backward). So i haven’t found myself bashing my foot on the pedal to get the crud out when riding in less than stellar conditions.
