Old thread but I’ll bite. In 2014 I was at Dirtfest in south central PA. That’s a mountain biking festival put on by Dirt Rag mag in mid may every year.
It’s at Raystown lake and the trails there can be very fast and flowy unlike most of PA’s trails. The demo loop included one called Osprey. It lived up to it’s name. Fast and swoopy flow. Very fun.
Anyway I rode the loop once on my own xc hardtail and I wanted to take a demo from Pivot out next. All were out so I went on mine again.
Well I went OTB at 20mph off of a roller apparently. I don’t remember. I woke up bloody in an ambulance on my way to a helo ride to a trauma 1 center in Altoona PA. They told me I was out for about 10 minutes. I had lots of bruises and trail rash. The main event was a hard hit over and around my left orbital. My helmet took most of the hit and that part of my face took the rest. I had a gash around my left eye that needed stitches and a severe concussion from that.
Without the helmet I’d be a goner for sure. The only permanent damage is some depth perception issues on the left and I still sometimes get headaches where I hit. Rarely anymore though.
