Flying to San Fran in a couple of weeks and looking for a place to rent mountain bikes and suggestions for a premier "do not miss" trail… We are intermediate riders who ride primarily in the southeast near Asheville and North Georgia. Can anybody recommend a mountain range or national or state parks, say within 4 hours?? There looks to be a zillion trails on singletracks… hard to figure out the best one (s). Thanks!!
Last time I visited San Francisco and rented a mtb, I used Bike and Roll – San Francisco.

They had a good selection of mtbs, including a decent FS, trail bike (Gary Fisher Roscoe), which was my choice. The employees did a very good job of fitting me and adjusting the cock-pit for comfort.
As for a ride, my brother-in-law and I rode across the Golden Gate Bridge and rode the Tennessee Loops in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Not very technical, but great views, and plenty of climbing!
